The Sierra Designs Tensegrity 2 FL Tent is a lightweight tent for backpackers looking to shed some weight. The FL version comes in at a minimum of 2lbs, 10oz; and must be pitched with the help of your trusty trekking poles. The freestanding tent has a hybrid single/double wall for a dry, cool tent and offers three ways to pitch, from a standard, to a stargazer, to one with an open porch for loads of breathability. The last one requires an extra set of trekking poles, so it's only possible when you have a partner sharing your tent. The large door allows two people to sit side by side with plenty of space at the shoulders. Don't worry, a handy gear closet keeps your pack from getting soaked on a wet night.

FEATURES of the Sierra Designs Tensegrity 2 FL Tent

  • Pitches with both fixed and adjustable length trekking poles
  • Provides dry entry and exit. Delivers sun protection and allows for door/window to remain open during a storm
  • Gear storage where it should be—away from the door with easy access to your things from the inside

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked flawlessly on the JMT for 18 days Used this tent on the JMT and it worked perfectly. Nose needs to be pointed into the wind if the awning is to be put up. Had this setup in really gusty winds with no issues. Easy to get a taut setup. I stake out all four corners, then the front pole and stake. Then I put the trekking poles in the back and stake down the middle point in the awning. Then I stake the sides of the awning in place always using the side ropes for use when the awning is up to those stakes as well. That way should a need arise to put the awning down such as a 180 degree high wind shift or rain, the stakes are in the right position. Once the side ropes are in place the awning can be removed from the stakes and the center back stake can be removed. Two ropes come with the tent to tie down an additional set of trekking poles holding the awning in place. I tied a loop in these and found that using the stake loops instead of the trekking pole hole on the awning works better in light wind. Raising the awning set of trekking poles a little higher allows the awning to pitch towards the front allowing easier access when climbing under and rain to run off. Once the tent is setup go back and extend the trekking poles on the main tent tightening everything up. Consider getting a piece of Tyvek to put down under the awning to keep you and your gear clean when getting out of the sun or light rain. All tie out pints have about 8 - 10" of adjustability allowing you to work around buried rocks roots, etc.
