The Sea to Summit X-Plate. The X-Plate is constructed from a flexible European standard compliant, food grade, silicone upper that is securely bonded by a patent-pending process to a rigid, cut resistant base made of high temperature, food grade nylon. It folds flat for compact packing.

"cutting board/plate/bowl combo" 10/19/11

This piece of gear is a bit bulky. When collapsed it is still a sizable disc. But in use, it does the work of three items. It can hold hearty soups, steaks, etc, and be used to cut veggies, frutis, etc. Besides the bulk, we got a winner.

"Its great, but could be lighter." 09/22/11

I bought those because I wanted a plate I could put in my back pack and not worry about it being broken will packing. It fold fairly flat and it can bend a little so its great. The only thing I would say on the negative side is that its a little heavy compare to lexan or alu plates. I spend a little more energy transporting it so I can fill it with good food without feeling bad ;-). The weight is not that bad if your not a weight weeny...I would buy it again, in fact I just bought the bowl to go with it.

"A little hard to find a use for" 12/24/10

These plates are great for what they are, but not very useful for backpacking these days. They fold up very small, but it is hard to justify the weight for something that I can't put on my stove and cook with. I usually just bring a couple of metal bowls these days because they are more versatile and every ounce counts when on a long backpacking trip. If you usually bring a plate along then these are great, but if not they can just be unnecessary.

"this plate almost disappears in my pack" 10/05/10

The high wall on these plates keeps food on the plate and even lets me use it as a bowl on occasion. The rubber edge keeps it from sliding around if I use it as a cutting board. When it's collapsed it takes up minimal space in my pack.
