Functional and light, but crudeYes, it's functional. If you're digging cat holes, it'll do the trick. The metal blade digs through just about everything with reckless abandon, which is handy when you're in a hurry. But no, it's not super refined. The handle rattles around in the blade. The telescopic push button thingies are hard to press, especially with gloves. And the cap for the stash tube in the end of the handle is really really hard to remove. Don't put your toilet paper in there and expect quick access to it. As a bonus, it comes with a nice little carrying sack perfectly tailored to its svelt silhouette.

Light weight, durable, easy to pack and carryI have to say the trowel has been very promising in quality overall. The aluminum seems very durable and light weighted. The handle is hollow in design and good place to put some toilet paper in it. The only downside I am seeing so far is it takes bit efforts to slide the handle back for packing, you have to push really hard on the metal button to let it slide back in folded position. The trowel goes with a small nylon bag.

reliable!!Have dug into several different substrates with this trowel and it always does a good job. The collapsing handle is great, makes it fit into a nice zip lock baggie so I don't have to put soil directly into my pack. Great price too. No complaints at all.
