"Stiff as hell but won't totally destroy your feet" 04/04/09
I got these as my go-to heavy boots for multi-day backpacking, summitting, and all around take on the world boot. They haven't disappointed. They are relatively comfortable right off the bat, but don't expect magical changes during break in, because there's very little of that. Minimal flex while using crampons; boot edges well. When it comes to temperature, these keep my feet happier than my Scarpa Mustang GTX's.Two minor bummers: Who's dumb idea was it to not have a rand on the toe? Seriously. The new GSB version does.Shoelaces were crap. Yeah yeah yeah, they're cheap to replace... but it's cheap for manufacturers to include laces that don't get shredded by a twig.
"A mountaineering boot you can wear for backpacking. Not a backpacking boot you can wear f/mtneering." 12/15/07
I just came out of the Pamirs in Afghanistan, having worn these boots for 23 days straight. Scarpa calls these boots a bridge between heavy backpacking and mountaineering. Be forewarned that they lean heavily towards a stiff , moutaineering boot, with virtually no flex in the soles - all the fore-aft ankle flex is engineered into the upper. Even with a fairly heavy day pack gbringing my total weight to over 200lbs, in rugged terrain, I felt myself to be over-booted and wishing for something more like an M3. If mountaineering is your thing, and you want a boot you can wear for the approach, go for these. If backpacking/hiking is your thing, look for something else. Pros stiff, great suppor
"A great addition to a out of control shoe collection" 08/11/07
Awesmoe fit right out of the box, even though I probibly just got lucky guessing my european size. These boots have awesome support in every direction and the edging is great too.
"Great boot for narrow Italian feet." 03/12/07
These look like great boots. Very well made. I was looking for a very heavy duty backpacking boot that I could securely wear crampons with and this boot has it all. But I wear an "E" width and no matter how much I size up I can't wear these boots. They are narrow at the heel, arch and toe. So even if you have a narrow foot, size up a half size to give your toes room to wiggle.
"Greatest mountaineering boot to date." 02/01/07
These boots fit perfectly. I have seen many reports about these being being too stif but they are nothing like ski boots. They are more like a regular hiking boot with a stiff lateral support.
"Sport Scarpa for your hiking/wildland firefighting needs..." 12/20/06
Even though they look black in the picture they are blue, more like a dark, dark navy blue. Color doesn't bother me as much as comfort. Just like all boots they need to be broke in, but after I broke my boots in they feel like slippers. I love when they feel like that. Oh yeah, they are very warm in cold weather.

p.s. Moosejaw employees are the best and they were more than helpful in assisting me in my purchase. Word up.
