GREAT SHOES! For BOTH bouldering and top-ropingThe shoes are amazing only if you get them in the perfect size! I would suggest to get them MJ.com since their return policy is AWESOME! You can heel or power through the toe for advancement on the routes. Shoes are synthetic, so my regular shoe size is 10 1/2, so at most go 1/2 down, but nothing more. pretty slick and easy to clean

A specialized shoeThis is a niche shoe for a specific purpose. It's one of the softest shoes on the market - you really can feel every nuance of rock and actually curl the shoe on overhanging terrain. I love this shoe for an area like the Red River Gorge, where the low-profile toebox and amazing sensitivity allow you to "grab" the overhanging sandstone pockets like an extra pair of hands.
A couple caveats though. These aren't the shoes for vertical edging, where you have to drive power into dime edges. With strong toes you can get away with a couple of edging moves, but you'd be better served by a more supportive boot in that circumstance. The XSGrip2 rubber is great and sticky, but wears down relatively quickly. Finally, I prefer the heel on the Instinct VS - the Furias are slightly baggier in the heel and have a little rubber notch that I haven't found to make a difference in my heel hooking game. The Dragos, which combine the Furia forefoot with the Instinct VS heel, seem to be the answer to that concern, but I haven't tried a pair yet.
So, in summary, these are an unparalleled pair of shoes - provided you use them as the specialized tools that they were intended to be.
