I was pretty excited to get these shoes as I had been looking for a lightweight trail running shoe and all of Salomon's previous offerings were little bulky for what I was looking for.I run Xterra races and run up to 10k (on/off road) so I wanted something light and could be used for versatile surfaces ranging from asphalt to snow to rocky, rooted single track. Well cushioned but still had enough spring to it where I feel efficient. I've never had problems with blisters/hot spots because it is almost seam free. Tread sturdy enough to not slip on most surfaces (anything really gnarly might be too much for it) but still runs smooth on pavement. It also looks bad ass and I think I'm going to get another pair just to wear around. Some downsides (which are minor). The tongue flops around because it is not secured to the laces but I haven't had any real problems with this. Second, if you're into running really crazy techy ultras this might not be enough shoe for you.
