This is an excellent pack for any canine companion. My favorite hiking partner is a hundred pound eight year old puppy. And he really does act like a puppy... until he puts on his pack. When he wears this, he knows he has a job and responsibility and he is 100% serious. He stands up a little taller and looks very proud of himself. You can tell all the other dogs on the trail are jealous. It fits well and seems comfortable, and the material is surprisingly durable.
We got the Approach pack for my 86 lb Black Lab (strangely not overweight) and have used it on three trips so far. It's awesome, especially when compared to the junky one we bought from the pet store a few years ago. The capacity is great. It can hold 4 days of dry food (16 cups), 2 liters of water, a couple milkbones, collapsable bowl, and 2 tennis balls. Even with all of that, there was extra room. The Approach pack sits well when full, too; it's not too bulky. The fabric is very tear resistant. My dog has scraped it against branches, tree trunks, rocks and thorns and it is still free from any tearing. It's also easy to wash, so after she rolls around in the dirt with it, we can chuck it in the washer when we get home and it's good as new.The fit is awesome. The last pack we had for her shifted constantly. The Approach pack works great. We balance the weight some, and the pack doesn't shift at all. It's a great pack, and we'll be getting another for our new puppy!
