first:i am 5'9" 150lbs and i bought a medium with the intentions of having room for layering for mountaineering. a medium was the perfect size for this. if you are my size and just wanna wear the jacket around town and have an "athletic" fit (i dont know why you are getting this jacket for that use) get a small.second:I live in MN and we have already had sub 20 deg F temps this year. I wore this jacket with a short sleeve button up under it and i wasnt coldoverall:i like the insulated hood. i like the internal baffle behind the main zipper to eliminate cold penetration. only negative is the main zipper is on the opposite side of a normal jacket and cant sometimes be a little finicky.
"Incredible Jacket. I have to try to find problems with it."
I love this jacket. It is definitely one of the best mid-weight down jackets on the market. I use it for ice climbing, mountaineering, winter backpacking, bc skiing, etc. I wrote a full, in-depth review with lots of pictures on www.gearthirty.blogspot.com. Check it out.
this jacket is incredibly warm, fits fantastically, packs down quite nicely, and so far seems quite durable. as far as warmth is concerned, i can walk my dog in just this and a t-shirt down to about 20, and am fine belaying in the shade with typical climbing layers down to...well, pretty darn cold. as for fit, i'm 5'10 and about 165, size small fits like it was tailored with the back coming down just below my butt. it provides great mobility and won't pull up. it also fits well over a helmet with better than average visibility. it also doesn't have that god-awful michelin man look. only drawback is the lack of interior pockets and the pockets don't have a fleece lining.
