The material has just enough flex to allow for a full range of motion but also remains durable. I ran them under the faucet to see what their water resistance factor is and it should hold up to some light rain but I won't be leaving my rain pants at home. Fit is perfect - not tight, not baggy (Medium/32" inseam for me @ 5'11'', 165lbs). I'll be buying the non-zip version for travel and keeping these for the trail.
I had been deciding between these and Patagonia's rock craft pants but decided to go with these. So glad I did. I'm pretty surprised that Prana has managed to design a pair of zip-offs that actually look good (well, relatively good). The material is INCREDIBLY comfortable and so stretchy that it basically feels like you're not wearing pants; perfect for huge moves and acrobatics. The waist is reinforced with softer fabric, too. The waist strap eliminates the need for a belt. The zippers are pretty high-quality and hold up to a lot of abuse. Oh, and the pockets (there are a lot of pockets) have top- and side-zippers for when you're in a harness. These are not wind-proof -- they're not designed to be -- so keep that in mind, and go with a softshell pant if you're climbing in windier ranges. Oh, and the button is hard to button at first, but it gets easier with use.
Excellent pair of pants! I use these for rock climbing, hiking, boating, and even everyday casual wear. Great investment for every climate! I've seen a marked decrease in uncomfortable sweating and tightness in these pants compared to regular shorts or pants. In both short and pant forms this item will keep you cool and decent, no more loose nylon gym shorts trading decency for comfort, these are full length, cloth and offer the same or better ventilation as nylon gym shorts. Also, they're durable! I fell on a recent hike on a section of bare rock and slid about 15 feet on my backside. In the past I've torn pants in such falls but these held up without a single frayed seem!Got enough room? These pants have enough room to fit both bottom pant sections in one of the cargo pockets, leaving the other five pockets for gear!A must-have item for anyone
I love these pants. Super comfortable, breath well and take a beating. I love the fact that I don't need a belt and that I can use the built in waist strap. I sleep in the shorts and am comfortable all night. I never thought I could get into wearing pants that have some give and stretch, but now I how I lived without them. These are still in great shape but I am gonna buy another pair to wear out on the town.
The zipper cargo pockets with the two zips on each pocket thing going on here, works. It is so very handy. I wear these pants so much my girl told me to stop wearing the same pants so much. So I went and got a brown and a tan pair. (The first were charcoal) I don't want to wear any other pants anymore. And I won't. I've been on a few hikes since I got these and they are perfect.
"Whether on the trail or in the airplane traveling, these pants are great."
I bought these for my husband to use for hiking and he loved them so much he took them on our vacation. They are great for both. If it gets too hot on the plane he can zip off the legs. They are great for travelijng as you can wash them out at night and they are dry in the morning. Very comfortable.
"Always wear these for Hiking/Backpacking"
Been using these for 1+ years for 20+ hikes. Comfortable, quick drying, breathable, stylish, lightweight and stretchy. These are my go to pants for hiking and backpacking. I love the versatility of having shorts when its hot and pants when its cold/bushwhacking. Only complaint is the price and I should have sized down, but thats my fault. I was 34 waist and I went with the large which fit great, but now I'm a 32 because I lost weight and wish I had a medium. These fit true to size. Great pants. I would buy these again when my current pair wears out.
These are really nice pants - Best pair of convertible pants I own. They are very comfy and look nice. The length of the converted shorts is perfect just slightly below the knee cap (at least on my body). I would give 5 stars but there are a couple things that could be better about these pants.1 the attached belt goes around the entire waist but is stitched to the pants near the second belt loop this makes it so when you tighten the belt the fabric bunches up between the first two belt loops and can't be distributed throughout the entire waist. the only other negative is that where the zipper is sown to the leg there is some extra zipper material that can come down below the fabric enclosing the zipper and rub your leg the wrong way. Pricey but awesome. I thought other people were a little overboard in their reviews about loving the pants so much the wanted to marry them (and they probably are) But they are my favorite pants and shorts I recommend them especially if they are on sale
Bought these for my 27 year old son. He has backpacked on the AT twice in the winter. Loves the freedom of movement, even with thermals on. He is 6'4" tall and the talls are finally long enough. I am looking for a pair for me now!
