The Platypus PlatyPreserve allows you to extend the life of your wine. Whether you are a connoisseur, an enthusiast or a casual admirer of wine, one truth remains: the delicate taste of wine change upon exposure to oxygen. That means wine is best enjoyed within a few hours of being opened. If not properly preserved, wine can go bad in as little as 2 to 8 hours. The PlatyPreserve is the best way to protect the taste of an opened bottle of wine by completely eliminating the presence of oxygen. While alternative methods might have you pump air out of the bottle or inject gas into the bottle, the PlatyPreserve has you transfer un-finished wine into an air tight reservoir to truly protect the taste of your wine so it may be enjoyed several days or even weeks later.

I'll never break another whiskey bottle on the trail! It does exactly what it's designed to do. Oh but how I wish I got one while they were on sale! I used two of them on my last (not so ultralight) hike. One for the whiskey and the other... for more whiskey of course! Now to defend my sanity, as you all probably think I belong in group meetings, there were 4 of us hiking. I, the more avid hiker, took on more gear weight (and to keep tabs on the whiskey). I'm not a big wine drinker, however these are great for whatever your flavor. They don't leech into your beverage, nor do they absorb the things you put in. So grab a few, fill them up, suck up the extra weight in your pack and toast the sunset from your next summit.

It's just an ordinary PlatypusGot this because features touted 'a special air free reservoir' to protect wine from presence of oxygen. Naturally I thought the design was somehow different from an ordinary Platypus or the dozens of other generic brand soft bottles used for backpacking/travel. It's NOT. Glad I got it on sale since it's nothing special.
