"The Platypus Gravityworks filter rules because you don't have to actively filter the water. You load up the dirty (top) reservoir, hang from a tree or whatever, and through the miracle of gravity water flows through the filter, into a clean reservoir, and you’re ready to go. Cleaning the filter cartridge is just as simple, as you just hang whole thing upside, run clean water through the filter backwards, and it flushes all the particulates back into the dirty reservoir."

"A filter and more" 02/16/12
This is my go to system. It's light weight, foolproof and can be modularized for your needs. For light weight use, omit the clean bladder and filter straight to your pack bladder. Refill the dirty bladder for filtering later. The zip closure is very handy for gathering water from small springs or other difficult sources. The handles make carrying much water much easier. I purchased the first generation zip style bladder many years ago and it is still going strong. It does it's job when I do mine. The clean bladder can be used as an emergency bladder should someone develop a leak in their system. This system can be easily adapted to work with reservoirs/bladders you already own.
"Awesome buy! Great product! So worth it." 12/22/11
Whether you backpack twice a year or go camping every other weekend, this product is worth it. We had always used a pump water filter, and it was a pain and took forever. Plus, it added a little more weight to our packs than preferred. I've always been a platypus fan, and their water reservoir has lasted me without any problems. I bought the gravity filter as a gift for my boyfriend, and we tried it out for the first time in the Smoky Mtns this past weekend. It filtered 4 liters in less than 3 min. It certainly lived up to the reviews. It's light, easy to use, and effective. After shopping around, Moosejaw had the best price as far as I saw. I would absolutely recommend it!
"Simple, easy to use and is faster than the pumps I used." 12/19/11
This product gets double thumbs up!My macho experienced hiking buddy thought I was nuts for buying this "Contraption," saying it would be slow to filter. It turned out Gravity is faster and better than hand pumping by far. After filtering one bag, I usually keep the unfiltered bag full in case I need more water later for drinking or washing. It doubles as a water carrying bag too.The only disadvantage may be that the two bags and hose are a little bulky, but does roll up into a carrying bag.BTW, Macho buddy's pump crapped out on him after a three months use. He then bought a Platypus Gravityworks Filter!
"Great filter super easy to use." 11/22/11
This filter is very easy to use. It filters large volumes in a short amount of time. No more hunched over the river, stream, or lake pumping for minutes on end for a small volume of water. I have friends that bring their $300 filters out and end up using my platypus....nuff said
"Essential piece of gear" 11/15/11
This is truly one of the best filters on the market. It is certainly the fastest and easiest by volume. What other criteria are there for a water filter? Quality I suppose, and the Gravityworks filter excels in that category too. Would not hike without it.
"Arguably one of the best water filters on the market." 08/15/11
I have been using this filter for a while and I only have one complaint from my experience with it. The zip lock style bags have begun giving me fits over time. If your hands are cold forget about being able to close them with ease. Other than that this product is fantastic. I only ask that they re-think the whole zip lock thing. But if it really bothers you, you could always use a different bag. With a little inventiveness one could figure something out.
"Sweetest H2O Filter on the market!" 07/20/11
This filter worked hard and kicked out an awesome amount of water on a hike with 3 dudes for 7 days on Isle Royale last year. Liters of water filtered through with ease; 3L in like 5 minutes.Words of Wisdom:Use some rope to hang the bags and you can have the closest thing to running water on the trail. One word of caution, if it is cooler out be sure to disconnect the filter at night so it doesn't freeze. Even if it freezes, and the filter working at 20% of it's original performance, it is still faster than anything else on the market.
"Experience Changing Device" 03/10/11
The Platypus Gravityworks system is by and far the single best addition I have made to my backpack! On a recent hike we pumped water in the Grand Canyon for literally 25 minutes, non-stop, just for a few litres of water. The Platypus Gravityworks system turned that process into a 3 minute, no hassle cakewalk! We simply filled up the clearly marked "Dirty" reservoir, attached it the clearly marked "Clean" reservoir, hung it up and walked away to put together our campsite. Within three minutes we had 4 litres of potable water without doing really any work. This device literally made our entire hiking trip! I will never hike without it!
