Rated 4 out of 5 by from Philmont Proven My Crew used several of these at Philmont this summer and they performed very well. The only time we had problems was when we were forced to attempt to purify very dirty stagnant water from a stock tank due to an emergency. Dirty water clogs the system very quickly, rendering it useless. Despite numerous backflushes, we could not get this system to work in that situation and were forced to use other means to obtain potable water (yes, we did prefilter the water to the best of our abilities). Always have a backup means of purificaiton with you in the backcountry.... That being said, this system is great when you have fairly clear water to work with and the flow rate is very high. This system is a staple for crew/group backcountry camping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hands down my favorite backpack water filter. I've had the earlier version of this unit for a few years now, and it's become my go-to water filtration device for backpacking. I recently used the unit on a rugged mountain hike where the access to water required a strenuous descent and ascent to bring water from a mountain stream back to the campsite. By using the GravityWorks system, I was able to pack 8 liters of water back to the camp in one trip, and then very easily filter and provide water for everyone in my group. It's by far the easiest system to use, as it basically does all the work for you via gravity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works great this thing works great!!! im a united states infantry marine, and we had 2 of these things per squad when we were doing some training in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The water that came out of the platypus, is the stuff ive ever tasted, better even then top dollar bottled water. And the best part was no one got sick from the water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy to use! Ridiculously easy to use and filters lots of water fast! The design makes it almost impossible to mix up your dirty and clean reservoirs. I can't speak to durability, but I've owned a water reservoir for a hydration pack for years and it's never failed me. The construction is very similar so I expect it will last much longer because it won't see the abuse I put my pack through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with my 2.0L system as welleen I have the 2.0L filter system;but I wanted to get the 4.0L for my family camp outs. I love that I can easily change bettween the 2.0L and the 4.0L. How well does it work? It can filter 4L faster than you can drink it. Under 3 minutes. A group of 8 can be refilled in about ten minutes well you enjoy your quick snackbreak. Easy to clean and back flush. I give it 24 hours to dry, before I put it back for storage. Great taste too. Beauty!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent water filter I have used hand pump filters forever (since 1980's) but purchased this unit about 3 months ago and have taken on two backpacks. First backpack no problems and the second one was into a remote area of Florida with no moving water, only swamp tea-like ponds with a lot of algae, scum and guppies, etc. in the dirty bag. We retrieved water from the pond using a 3 gallon collapsible bucket than poured into the dirty bag after some settling. The system with the carbon final filter produced almost perfect drinkable water. The only concern was a light brown in the clean bag probably from the tannic in the water. The clean water had no taste and seemed okay. It has been 3 weeks since that adventure and neither of us were sick or any health problems. Whew!! So we love the platypus filtration system as it has performed flawlessly and is actually fun to use versus the pumps that I will sell on the internet. Our next backpack is into the AT for a month so the platypus will have another chance to excel. Will update after that trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boy Scout camping Our Boy Scout troop has been using two 4L GravityWorks filters for several years now and have been very, very happy with them. We originally owned pump type filters that were used at Philmont as well as our regular troop backpacking trips, but filtering water took so very long and the boys always complained about how difficult they were to use. We purchased our first 4L GravityWorks Water Filter about 5 years ago and quickly bought another after we saw how easy it was to use and how quickly it filtered the 4 liters while we went about the other business of setting of camp. The only complaint that we have is that over time it has become extremely difficult to re-seal the tops of the bags even after we have followed the Platypus' instructions to fix this problem. That issue aside, the Gravity Works system is highly recommended for any type of group camping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and easy water filter system! I'm an amateur backpacker and avid outdoor enthusiast. Had this on 1 backpacking trip on the Shenandoah National Park (~3300ft elevation) so far on the Nicholson/Corbin Cabin trail. I've used it on a local Hughes river running through and walked it back to camp. Filtered 4 liters of water very quickly (~5 minutes) and very easy to use when hung. I'm so glad I got this because I was a person who use to always boil water or carried 3 L in with my camelbak; but this will certainly extend my trips in the future! The plastic bags are of high quality and everything seems durable. I've kept the clean components in a plastic baggie so they stay nice and dry. I would highly recommend this product and look forward to using it more in the future!
