The e+Lite Headlamp by Petzl serves either as your go-to back up if your primary headlamp fails to perform, or functions as an ultra-light alternative. This headlamp weighs slightly less than an ounce with the lithium batteries installed. The e+Lite includes a hard plastic carrying case to help protect your lifesaving illumination. The three white LEDs throw a beam of 62 feet in maximum mode, or lights the route 36 feet ahead in economy mode. Built for tucking into a survival kit, the e+Lite Headlamp has a shelf life of 10 years. It also features white and red strobe modes for rescue purposes, has an option to illuminate with the red LED alone to preserve night vision, and has a lock mechanism to keep the switch from accidentally turning on inside your backpack. My backpack once turned my headlamp on and it ran out of batteries. It made me so sad, I almost cried. Please don’t tell anyone. For emergencies, the e+LITE is equipped with a long-range whistle that can signal one’s position for rescue (the SOS Morse code illustration on the whistle).

"Lightweight, bright, and comfortable" 01/03/12
When I first purchased this headlamp, it was for back up use during search and rescue missions. It quickly became my standard light for searches, as well as casual hiking, and any other activity needing a headlamp. It is lightweight, compacts to nearly nothing, and the strap is effective despite its petite size. The only problems that I have had are opening the case with cold hands, and losing the darn thing because it is so small.
"Lite-Weight, powerful, comfortable" 12/26/11
This item caught my eye as something different in a headlamp. I love items that can pull double duty when it comes to an item I will take on the trail with me ... Light/survival tool. This headlamp is great for working around the camp fire and kitchen at night. It is more of a flood light, it doesn't project very far ... which BTW it isn't designed or advertised to do ... so understand that when you purchase it. Love and recommend it.
"Essential Emergency Lighting" 12/14/11
It's not the brightest light, but it is tiny and packs down super small. It's lightweight and has a lot of safety lighting modes. I always keep one in my climbing pack because we always seem to be hiking back later than expected, and it's come in handy many times. It definitely provides enough light to find your way back to camp, and I'm pretty certain it's water resistant too. Great little light.
"Perfect for most occasions" 12/01/11
I had the older style of this Petzl e+Lite and I think my brother snagged it from me. This newer one has the added benefit of a whistle which, frankly, I've never used but still seems kind of cool. The light is bright, the different settings are nice, and the battery seems to last forever. My only really minor gripe is that the strap is so narrow that sometimes it moves around on my head a little more than the bulkier headlamps. But it's not really a big deal if you just keep tightening it up from time to time. And it's a lot easier to stick in your pocket and take anywhere than the bulkier headlamps I own.
"Super Bright, Super Light." 11/01/11
Super light as in, it doesn't weigh much. But I guess also, it is a super light. Works great as a map light at night, finding firewood at night, or in instances when you need your hands like sailing, or drinking. Also.. packed with rescue pro-tips.
"Keep the switch clean!" 10/12/11
Love this light and its case. Highest brightness to weight ratio you can find. Great LEDs make the long lasting brightness possible in such a light package. Super for casual use but not if your equipment goes through any abuse. Please don't use this light in a situation where your life depends on it (without a back up). Got a bit of dirt on the exposed switch track which undermined the switches ability to slide, even after rinsing in water. Returned it for an exchange. From now on, I keep it in its case for use in emergencies. Its case is really cool and comes with a whistle with the Morse code for SOS stamped on it.
"Fantastic LED headlamp" 03/14/11
For its size, weight, and price, this headlamp is amazing. Great battery life, good light power for its size, and I always love the red LED option for camp.If you aren't doing complex routefinding, I think this thing is good enough to even use as your only lamp and I have certainly used it in this capacity. One oft-forgotten feature is how the lamp pivots and clips. If you're using another lamp as your primary headlamp, you can bust out the e-Lite and clip it to your pocket or even set it up (partially unfolded like a pyramid) on the ground to help light up your camp.
"Outstanding, lightweight headlamp" 10/25/10
The best feature of this headlamp is how light it is. Other lamps simply bother me when I wear them. This one I can forget about it either being on my forehead or hanging loosely around my neck. The whistle and the ability to clip it to the bill of my hat is also nice. However, that clip is extremely tight. While that makes it really secure and safe from falling off, it is really tough to get on my hat. The ball joint pivot ensures you can point the beam in any direction you need. The light output and different modes make it useful from everything from hiking in the dark, a lantern in the tent, to working on my car or my computer.
"small compact and light (no pun intended)" 10/13/10
this light is cheap and comes in a handy little case and this one comes with a whistle! multiple settings change up your lighting and best of all its so small! it has a hat clip that works great and the strap works great to.
"Small, but packs a punch" 10/06/10
When I think of this headlamp, the ugly duckling comes to mind. I see all of its counterparts with big ol battery backs and 8 LED ultra-bright functions that do the macarina and make you lunch, but really, this headlamp is all you need. It has 2 brightness functions for the white LEDs, and a redlight, so your friends don't hate you when you're trying to look at them in the dark. It also has strobes for both color LEDs, although I'm not exactly sure of the use for a redlight strobe. But at under an ounce, it's hardly wasting weight. The cinch on the headband doubles as a rescue whistle and also has SOS in morse code. It just packs a lot of stuff in a small little package.
"Great emergency light" 08/30/10
This is a great little self contained light for a good price. Cheap enough to buy a couple of them and stick them in emergency kits, vehicles etc. Might not have the run time or common battery size/cost for an everyday headlamp but it would do the job!
"Great lightweight light!" 05/11/10
I have the version sans whistle. Out of the box, the light switch was extremely difficult to rotate to the point I thought I'd either break it or my finger. Neither happened, haha, and once the switch was broken in a bit, it works great. Comes with a great capsule to store the light.
