The William Screw-Lock Carabiner by Petzl is a manual locking pear-shaped carabiner with a large opening making it best suited for organizing at belays with a Munter hitch. This uniquely patented Keylock gate uses a key-shaped nose on the 'biner and slot-shaped gate to create a strong, snag-free closure. The William Screw-Lock has a red band to indicate when the device is unlocked to leave you climbing or caving confidently when you go to double-check your gear. The Keylock system helps prevent snagging of the carabiner during maneuvers and is recommended for dirty environments where dust and dirt could cause an automatic locking mechanism to malfunction.

"Works well, but could improve." 05/09/12
Straight forward: Great piece of equipment. Nice and big, easy to use.... however, if I worked for Petzl and had some say, I would have had the design team make the screw lock just a little easier to unscrew. Once screwed shut into locked position, it can be VERY hard to undo. (Unless you use a piece of webbing as grip or you're Superman). Especially an issue if you need to release in a hurry.
"It's called William" 01/31/11
The Bottom Line says it all. The name is the best part! What else is there? There's nothing wrong with the way this carabiner works- it opens, closes, doesn't break, it's pretty durable...what else? The reason that YOU should choose this one is it's name- who could resist William?
"Good product" 12/07/10
Awesome large size, good weight. Great for setting up anchors & belaying. Red line on the lock is very helpful with making sure its locked & its very smooth opening/closing/locking. Great smooth, strong surface, durable, doesn't show scratches. Recomended
"Questionable Durability." 11/15/10
Bought one of these for my harness about 3 months ago, and it doesn't really take me. It feels hollow and flimsy for the price you pay, however it's quite light so if that's what you're after... It functions well, and the extra feature of a red gate telling you that you need to close the gate is a great idea. However, I wouldn't buy another screw gate. It's just not reliable enough for people as clumsy as me. In a nutshell, it's okay, but I'd not but another.
