Really awesome little headlight. Much stronger than my previous headlight, still the same size. The wide angle lens is really nice, flip it up and you have wide-spread light, flip it down and you have long-distance spot light. High and low setting for brightness, and a blinking mode too. If it is kept on the low-brightness setting, the batteries will last forever. The only downside is that it i a tiny bit to heavy to use will running, unless you tighten it really hard. It won't fall off, but it will be a bit annoying. However, except for that, its a great headlamp.
I really really love this headlamp. It rocks. It is bright, but has dimmer settings and flashy settings. It has very good battery life. It is amazingly reliable and well made--it will last a long time, which makes spending the money a no brainer. You could probably go through 5 less expensive models, or just one of these. Its predecessor (Tikka XP) lasted me over 5 years of just about daily use before it began flickering a bit, so I recently upgraded to this one. I gave my partner one as a gift over a year ago and he loves it. This is THE item I dont leave the house without.
On its brightest setting it will burn your eyes out. Luckily it can be dimmed (ostensibly to extend battery life, but really so no one goes blind). The red is also a nice feature, but I rarely use it. The lamp is very water resistant. It has held up to nasty rain storms and abuse in the snow. The strap is nice, and fits a helmet well. Overall great light.
Excellent performance at -20 dog sledding with great Outward Bound instructors in the Boundary Waters. Petzl is the standard, highly reliable, solidly built. Simple intuitive button operations...push once bright... again dim... again blinking... hold down red... push red blinking... hold down back to bright. Flip up diffuser lens for wide-angle light. Batteries AAA x 3 simple to replace. Have owned other top brand headlamps but the Petzl Tikka XP 2 is strongly preferred for its ease of operation. My family keeps taking mine on world or wilderness trips, so I keep buying them... and love that they have this highly reliable light wherever they go.
"bought a second because i didn't regret the first!"

so i did hours of reading reviews, watching youtube videos on headlamps. im one those real researcher types when it comes to buying new gear. i landed on this one, the xp is a supped version of the 2 plus but still the same size, it burns a little brighter, reaches a little further, and they have added a wide angle lens that just slides up, perfect for fumbling around in the dark, or if you're scared of the dark... me? no, this is... for my errr... girlfriend! great headlamp, you cant be disappointed!
