The TIKKA XP2 headlamp by Petzl is the upgrade to take up the Rayado River next summer. This Petzl Headlamp integrates two light sources as well as a Wide Angle lens with a simple open-close feature, allowing the user to choose between a long distance focalized beam and flood beam proximity lighting. This Petzl led headlamp is equipped with a white high-output LED and a red LED. The white LED delivers 60 lumens in maximum mode and lights up to 60 meters. In economic mode, it can reach a burn-time of 160 hours. The red LED provides lighting to preserve night vision or to become a blinking light for increased safety, for example in an urban environment, etc. TIKKA XP2 can be used with lithium batteries to decrease weight or increase performance in cold weather. With all theses features, Petzl Headlamps let you hang bearbags, read some Darwin Awards, and even find your way back to the Red Roof Inn (out-house).

"Great quality at a fair price" 05/16/12
My wife calls me a flashlight fanatic. I have a collection of Mag lights, Princeton Tecs, and Petzl lights as well as other brands. This headlight is my favorite light of all. I've used it camping, backpacking, adding house insulation, repairing a water heater, working on the car, reading in the car, and as my emergency light when going on trips (Never go on a trip without a light!).It has everything you need: two brightness levels, a light diffuser, and a red light for preserving your night vision. The batteries last a long time, it is light and comfortable, and the unit adjusts to point the light exactly where you might need it.
"Great headlamp!" 03/23/12
I've seen brighter but I think they are also bigger, like the kind with an external battery pack on the back. This is by far the best headlamp I have ever used and I would say well worth the price. It has an excellent selection of modes for different situations and the reason I love it compared to all others is simply that it is very comfortable to wear around. Top notch product from Petzl!
"Best headlamp I've ever had." 02/15/12
This thing is bright when you need it, soft when you need it, and even has that handy red light so you don't blind yourself trying to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It swivels down so you can aim it at the ground instead of directly in peoples eyes. It even can serve double duty around the neck as your trusty safety whistle, which anyone who has seen Vertical Limit knows is vital.
"Best lightweight headlamp I could find" 01/28/12
I love this thing! I have had this on many adventures and I have had only good experiences with it. It has held up to plenty of abuse. Plenty bright for night trail hiking and almost bright enough for night mountain biking (it works fine for me). However the best feature is it's battery life. The brightness diminishes as the batteries drain however, so don't expect it to be as bright after 30 hours of use as it is with fresh batteries. I recently purchased the Petzl Core rechargeable battery upgrade, and while this headlamp is still great without it, I would definitely recommend it.
"Does everything I need, nothing less" 12/28/11
This is a super reliable headlamp. It doesn't give out on you, even when the battery is dying, just dims, leaving diminishing useable light for hours. It has great features and a equal priceline for what it is.
"perfecdt" 12/10/11
I've been able to use this several times since I got it and it helps see in the dark WAY more than just a cell phone light and frees your hands up more than your standard flashlight. Really easy to use all of the different setting and fits my Petzl Elios helmet perfectly...my friends all get a good laugh when I show them the whistle too! haha
"Awesome Headlamp" 10/19/11
Coming from a Tikka 2, the XP is a worthy step-up if you spend a good amount of time outside. The red light is invaluable for not attracting bugs and you can tell easily how much brighter the XP is. The light spreader is also very nice and helps to illuminate a larger area when you don't need a focused beam.
"can't go wrong!" 09/23/11
I use this to climb mountains in Colorado, from scramble to low class 5 un-roped. I typically start at 3AM and this guy lights up my path and area perfectly. The battery life is phenomenal and it is very bright and built to last. Well worth the price
