Rated 5 out of 5 by from The greatest thing since sliced bread! I work in cinematography and love it! We're often packing up or looking for things in the dark. The light really dims when you work close up, brightens if you want to see into the back of a truck and goes to full power to see far away. Also, the red light is great to see camera markings in the dark without disrupting the scene. I'm sure you'll have a different application for it, but the possibilities are endless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best headlamp ever. Period This headlamp is USB rechargeable, but that's not entirely accurate. This headlamp has a rechargeable and removable battery that is USB rechargeable. This means you can charge the battery outside of the headlamp with just a USB cable, so you can hot-swap batteries with a charged spare. The battery charges real quick, by wall or solar panel. The software aspect to customize your beam settings is somewhat gimmicky. The downsides: no matter how much customizing you do, it is the most blinding light at the campsite. The 'dim' mode, is just the red light. For night climbing and trails, it's everything you need. My other issue: there are two buttons that cycle through cryptic settings and different combos of button clicks make different beams... I'm trying to see at night, not play mortal combat on my forehead. This thing needs one less button.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Buy, Worth It! Overall it worth the buy. I had a different model petzl that was AAA battery powered. Changing batteries is kind of a pain and costs of batteries add up if you are out at night enough. My one recommendation is to charge it after each use just to make sure. There are no AAA batteries to this of course, so if you are hiking and its no charged up you are out of luck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fantastic, maybe a little big ive owned some cheapo headlamps and wanted something more advanced... this lamp delivers... it's very bright and the reactive lighting feature is spot on i was considering the petzl nao... which is bigger/heavier, but w more lumens... happy i chose this one ... i think it's on the bigger side of what is acceptable for me btw i wear it to run trails and roads at night in the winter ...4-10 night miles/week... I'm a relatively serious/competive age group runner/triathlete

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intelligent Lighting - Step in the right direction I really like how Petzl is trying to innovate in this space. The execution isn't completely perfect since, as some have mentioned, the auto lighting adjustment feels a little dim. That said, you can fine tune it to your liking. In those situations where you the auto adjust isn't required, it has a manual override. Love the Li-ion battery for constant burn. It is rechargeable and extras can be procured, but obviously at a greater expense upfront cost than alkaline or rechargeables NiMh batteries, but I still think it is worth the convenience an efficiency Li-Ion provides. I have a Black Daimond Spot and even though it is brighter and more efficient, the Petzl feels higher quality in terms of the ABS plastic and construction from a perception standpoint. The quality of the LED seems a bit different as well—clean and white.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive upgrades. I own about 20 headlamps, some issued, some purchased, the oldest of which goes back to the early days of the cuisanarts. I purchased this incarnation of the Tikka to support an upcoming deployment along with some much needed summit bids in and around the Alps. I got to demo this baby a few weeks ago in mtn training so all my experience with it has been at 11K ft. What I love: the variable luminosity based on distance. I do a lot of looking up and out, and in and down... I like how it dims so as not to white out my field of vision. This feature alone makes it worth while. While climbing at night this feature's charm became appreciated as I had to look down at footing, and then up and out to route find. I also purchased the whole suite of accessories... charger, spare battery and the AAA housing. Having the complete package means this will be my primary as I have several contingencies for power. I look forward to fine tuning the light with software and I hope that battery life is as advertised. I've had no problems thus far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent headlamp The performance is excellence. The reactive lighting works well. I personally do not like the color options available, but I didn't buy it for the looks. Takes a few tries to remember which buttons do what, but once you get it down you're set.
