The addition of the red LED over the regular Tikka is very good for checking maps or reading a compass at night, like when I am hiking on snow under a full moon. In that situation I don't need or want a white light to ruin your night vision.The white light throws enough light to climb by, although there are other models which have a super-bright spot beam for route-finding, which this doesn't. All in all, a very solid product.
