"The standard!" 03/01/12
The Tikka 2 might not be the brightest, the lightest, etc. but it's easy to use, has a good range of light for general up close/flood use, and it's reliable and well sealed to keep out the elements. A lot of head lamps are poorly sealed should you have to use them when it's raining, it's not waterproof but it does a good job of keeping rain out. Another big plus is you can buy replacement lenses should it get scratched up (mine always do cause I toss them around) or broken, so you aren't stuck buying a whole new light. I'd say the only thing it lacks that some of the newer lights do is a high power narrow beam for lots of throw.
"Dependable, affordable—great combo" 12/25/11
I got this a year ago when staying in a cabin in a state park. It ended up being one of the best purchases of that year! I ended up not only using it when we went out snowshoeing at night, but also going from cabin to cabin in the dark. Since then I've used it to fix my car at night, and I keep it not far from my bed in case the lights/power go out (yeah, years of hurricane and earthquake training). It's nice and bright for most things you'll want. I wouldn't go exploring Rochester's old subways tunnels with it instead of a larger light source, but for everyday (ermm... everynight?) things or recreational camping, it's great.
"Worth its weight" 12/07/11
Super headlamp, that I've used for years. I like the 3 level of light brightness and though I haven't had to use it, the flash mode could come in handy. Batteries last a long time. I've used this headlamp whenever I'm outdoors at night. From sturgeon fishing the St. Clair River to finding my daughters bracelet at night in the back yard, the light hasn't failed me. The elastic is getting a little stretched out after many years, but the adjustable size fixes that. I highly recommend this light.
"Sweetness" 12/01/11
This headlamp is great. The different variations of light is so handy when you don't necessarlily need the brightest one. That was you can save some battery life. I keep this with me in my backpack all the time. is super handy when working with both hands in tight dark places making a 2 man job a solo mission. Is also really great for bike rides when it's a bit darker out. shines light far enough in front of you to see and more importantly makes you more visible. Definitely recommend this for ANYBODY.
"If you are backpacking for an extended period of time, it's all you need." 10/30/11
I went on a 30 day backpacking trip in Wyoming and this headlamp did not disappoint. The battery lasted the entire trip and much more, with use for over an hour each night. It is bright on its brightest setting and dimmer (all you need for reading or tasks in the tent) on its other light setting. It also has a flashing setting. Bottom Line: This won't be your top of the line headlamp with the brightest light ever, but for my NOLS backpacking trip it was great for me, especially for the price.
"Good light for its intended purpose" 10/12/11
Good light for its intended purpose, but I wanted a trail running light...not a good light for that task. Bought due to its light weight and stability on my head. During the race, saw first hand that there are other lights on the market that are of lighter weight and more bright. If your trainiing run takes place in the late evening and you return home in the dark, this is not the light for you. If you want it for walks, hiking, car camping, its perfect. The 40 lumens is probably sufficient.
"Real nice headlamp." 09/19/11
Used on a couple of long trips and for reading at night whilest the sweetie is snoozing. Very durable. Bright light is bright, and the dim is just dim enough. I would recomment it to a friend totally. Wish the adjustment clip on the side was a bit slimmer. Battery life is very long so far. too many hours to count!
"Easy to use, does the trick!" 09/08/11
Having older petzl head lamps, I knew this Tikka 2 would not disappoint me!The concept is simple, the looks are great, the light is superb..The strap fits comfortably around my big 'melon' head.Nothing beats reading a book in the evening with this baby on your head!
"Great Piece of Equipment" 08/07/11
I use this thing almost everyday. I have never had a problem once with it and have used it heavily for 3 years. The batteries have a good life span too. Would definitely recommend it to a friend.
"Father-in-law likes me now" 06/25/11
My wife's father is a truck driver/farmer/hard-working shotgun carrier. Yes, I used to be on his bad side. Now that he has this headlamp, he can hit me with his hands instead of with his Mag light. I actually have this headlamp too, and it's seriously great for the price. Never have had to change the batteries even after a couple years. Great product, great Moosejaw.
"Great headlamp" 06/14/11
I've owned a petzl tikka for a few years now (purchased, of course, from moosejaw). Gone are the days of carrying around a flashlight, thus freeing up your hands for whatever you may need to do (great for setting up a tent in the dark). I use it mainly at music festivals for finding my way around at night in crowds. Its ability to point downward is perfect for this. I can see where I am going, plus it doesnt blind anyone. This headlamp has also saved my behind a few times on hikes. Spent too much time on the trail and ended up having to (in one case hike down a mountain) hike out in pitch black. I also have never had any issue with the headlamps actual performance.
"Super Bight" 04/27/11
Picked this up to replace a lost headlamp and i could not be happier. It's very bright and has a much wider angle than I thought it would(stretches the trail and then some) and I have been using on and off for a while now and the batteries are still going. I thought for sure the button would accidentally get pressed in my backpack and be dead by now but that has not been the case.
