Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go-to belay device. This really is the best belay device I know of. It is such a versatile tool with it's auto locking capabilities and the ability to lower people on it even (although not as nicely as a grigri...) still I much prefer it to a grigri in every instance besides top roping, and even then reverso's teeth make it a good option for that. The rign on the top for clipping to an anchor to setup a top belay is also positioned in a way that orients the device at a more convenient angle for belaying than the BD Guide ATC. That is a very nit picky think to say though, and I still like the Guide a lot. Really just belay devices like this are the best!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super lightweight; great belay device I had a Reverso 3 that was stolen, so I got one of these guys about six months ago. Like the 3, the 4 give a smooth belay with all the ropes I have had in it, and autoblock setups like this are the best way to belay a second from above. The 4 is definitely made to be light, to the point where I would actually prefer the marginally heavier 3 for the sturdier feel. That being said, I haven't had any durability problems with the 4, and I have been very happy with it. Also, just FYI, out of the pictures on here, only the orange is a 4. You can see where the sides have been machined in, where the others are smooth.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of the best out there The Petzl Reverso is lighter than the Black Diamond ATC guide but does the same job. I like how the deisng is similar and accomplishes the same versatile tasks as other devices with the openings at either end for tying cordelette or attaching carabiners. I with the carabiner side was turned 90 degrees however as it makes belaying a bit less awkward. Also, I like the metal used for the actual device, but upon touch, feel, and use, it slips more than the ATC Guide. It's an awesome lightweight substitute, and if weight matters, get this guy and you won't be disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from did the job but didn't last I had the Reverso 3 for just under a year before it wore down to unacceptable sharp edges in multiple places. We've got a regular ATC and an ATC-XP that are much older and not nearly as worn, so we just replaced this with an ATC-guide...we'll see how that one lasts! Also, I found it was not good with fat gym ropes--had trouble feeding out slack fast enough when lead belaying--but didn't have trouble with it on our 9.8mm rope when climbing outside. Other than these issues, we didn't have any trouble using this belay device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Petzl Reverso vs BD ATC Guide...the winner is BOTH! ,,,,You really can't go wrong with either of these ATC's. I originally had the BD ATC Guide, however it got stolen, and gave the Petzl a try. I liked both ATC's. The orientation for top-belaying is slightly different, but other than that, they weigh about the same and both feel great to belay with. The BD ATC Guide does have a few more grooves for locking off the rope, but in all honesty, they felt about the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from light and great for skinny lines My Reverso accompanies me on alpine routes and enduro link-ups where weight is a consideration. I have used it for free hanging raps on lines down to 7mm (as in double stranded 7mm raps) without any issues. It's not rated down to this size so you'll need to use your best judgement. They wear out faster than something like an ATC Guide (to be expected) so I opt for the ATC when I'm cragging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great for multipitch and better than the BD ATC Guide I've been using the Reverso for quite a while and although the black diamond Guide is very similar, the Reverso is the belay device to buy if you will be doing multipitch; simply because the angle of the metal ring is positioned better for belaying from above. I use it for every climbing trip. it works great in all situations and rope sizes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great multifunctional, sturdy and easy to use. My preferred belay tool when I guide. Easy for teaching a beginner yet multifaceted enough to fit in for several tools any climbing guide may need. ,,Improvement in rope handeling and clipping ease over the first generation, as well as better choice in colors so it is sure to match your gear and not your mates :),,
