The Quark Ice Tool by Petzl. The QUARK is a versatile ice axe, designed primarily for technical mountaineering and for ice climbing. Because of the head's modular construction, it adapts to any situation. The QUARK is easy to use: its balance and its ICE pick allow solid placements on any type of ice. Hooking is more efficient, thanks to the clearance under the head and to the shape of the pick. The GRIPREST and the TRIGREST hand rest ensure a comfortable, powerful grip adapted to leashless climbing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic design... WOW Index finger guard! Basically, best tool eve. I noticed a few things I liked about the new Quark. First off... You can actually spin a carabiner through the slot on the bottom. You don't know how cool this feature is until you actually need to. ,,,,The trigger like index finger guard, is such a great idea. It gives me un-matched dexterity on ice. The feeling of being secure in your tools is so solid with this. ,,,,I mainly climb waterfall ice with these axes, and I can honestly say, that the curve on the shaft is in the perfect spot. No more breaking fingers sir... No more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tried a bunch of tools and this is my favorite! For alpine climbing, I carry a Quark with hammer and a Petzl Sum'Tec with adze. What a perfect combination... The Quark has an amazing balance to it; it just feels great when you swing it. I haven't gotten used to the index finger rest on it (maybe a little tight with thick gloves on), but you can flip it up out of the way with ease. The spike on the bottom will allow this tool to function in piolet canne in a pinch, I've tried a bunch of different ice tools and this is my favorite!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the Han Solo's of Ice Axe i bought it two years ago for a summit attempt of Baker. used it as a walking stick since the snow was so steep. Pretty decent when it comes to mountainering since its not the longest and you need to bend over it takes a toll on you, but as for ice climbing this will be your chewbaca when attacking the ice, the grip adjusts to what ever feels better, this is a big plus since every climb is different. really good grip, i dont think ill ever buy another type of axes.,,,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool The petzl quark is one of the best ice tools. Very light weight and balanced. The adjustable trigrest is a great feature to have. Or you can remove it. If you lay it on top of a Nomic the bend in the shaft is slightly less. I'm sure you knew this. Keeping your finger on the trigrest while you swing seems to aid in a more effective swing. It will just sink into the ice. Such a thing of beauty. If you are not happy with these maybe you should take up knitting. !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome, versatile ice tool The Quarks are perfect for climbers who need a versatile tool. They preform extremely well for vertical ice climbing, alpine climbing and even lower end mixed routes. The tool is totally modular and can be adapted to all sorts of terrain. Adjustments are easy and do not require an engineering degree. Definitely a great addition to my ice climbing arsenal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ice tool. It's very light and extremely versatile. Some people may find this tool too light in the base configuration. When swinging it you may feel that it doesn't have the same momentum as your old tool. I haven't found this to be an issue - with the lightness and shape of the tool I get increased precision on my swings and this compensates for the lower momentum. Now, you can increase the momentum of your swing by adding the pick weights (separate purchase) and for very cold/hard ice this may make a big difference for you. For hooked/soft ice this tool works amazingly well in the base configuration. ,,,,The trigger is easy to adjust (no tools required). Having the carabiner hole at the bottom is great for clipping into your tool (to either retain it with a leash or for some quick protection in a stressful situation, i.e. using your tool as an ice hook). The pick at the bottom also works quite well when using your ice tool as a cane.,,,,For both alpine and ice climbing I would recommend taping the metal shaft on the tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Alpine Ice Tools These are great light weight ice tools. Perfect for alpine climbs that include ice pitches. They perform well on water ice, but for ease of use could use bit of extra weight on the pick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tool. Love how light and versatile these tools are. I have smaller hands and for the grip diameter is perfect and the adjustability of everything is just awesome. Great tool around!
