Moosejaw Staff Pick - Andy, Partridge Creek Moosejaw

The Nomad 9.8 Rope by Petzl is a durable rope with a thick sheath, providing superior handling and a well-tuned balance between dynamic elongation and impact force making this a perfect all-around rope. This climbing rope was designed where the sheaths make up at least 33% of the total weight of the rope, translating into superior core protection while you continuously abuse it on multiple pitches of gritty sandstone or granite. The Duratec treatment involves treating the core and outer layer, providing a long-lasting protection from wetness and freezing. The smooth handling Nomad climbing rope is packaged in a "climb ready" coil to eliminate the arduous task of uncoiling the rope the first time. Gosh, what a great concept, its like those toys that say "assembly required" except this is like the total opposite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Will Love This Rope!! GREAT BUY!!! I just picked up a new rope for the year. I went with a Petzl rope and got the 9.8 Nomad. One of the cool things about all Petzl ropes is they keep it pretty simple by giving all their ropes all the extras that sometimes can be confusing to sort through with other manufacturers. This is the second rope I’ve owned since I’ve started climbing. my first rope is an Sterling Marathon Sport 10.4mm. Now to me this new rope is sweet and clips like a dream when you need it to on hard sends. It’s small, but does not compromise durability. This rope is perfect for sport climbing for beginners or the seasoned pros. You Will Love This Rope!! GREAT BUY!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from my girlfriend has very nice teeth first thing i noticed was the factory coil job, very nice because i was waiting on the front steps for the delievery man with climbing gear in hand ready to go. next i noticed the weight, going down the a 9.8 mil really made a big difference, next i noticed the markings very very helpful, i was planning on marking the rope in the exact same way if it wasnt done for me already, then i noticed the texture, a little smoother and slipperier spell check that than i was comfortable with but ill adapt. finally i notcied the color bright green as our climbing session that day ran late and the rope was one of the last things i could see as the darkness shut us down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will buy another. I bought this rope when it first became available because I wanted a solid 9.8mm rope from Petlz. I have not been let down (pardon the pun). It has followed me everywhere I climb. It is lightweight and extremely durable, but that's not the selling point; it's insanely easy on the hands. Even past the first 5 or 10 climbs, the sheath still feels solid but doesn't tear up your hands. The other ropes I've used too many times feel like sandpaper on the hands, but this one is wonderful... for the belayer too. Falls are great, clipping (since it's soft) is fast and easy, and when I retire mine coming up pretty soon I'm going to make it into two gym ropes and get another.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for sending your projects, not an all around rope. I am an avid sport climber and got this rope for sport ONLY (ok and maybe some trad when I had someone who led). I never used this for top rope, but after a solid spring and summer of climbing (2 out of 4 weekends for 6 months), the rope was tired. The sheath started to fray only after a few uses at the New River Gorge. ,,,,The rope provides a fantastic catch and feel when it is brand new, but if you're working a project and taking a few whippers, you may start wondering about your rope...just a little bit.,,,,Get this rope for the send, and project with something a little more durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect all round rope This is the best rope that I've ever used for all round cragging. Its thin enough where you don't dread carrying it in your pack but still burly enough where you're not paranoid about running it over a few edges. The stiffness of the sheath is the perfect balance of durability and suppleness and it holds knots very well even right off the shelf. the ready to climb coil is great and i've never had any problems with the rope getting twisted up. this rope is very durable so far, my home crag eats ropes and this rope has barely even shown any wear after a fair amount of use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best suited for general alpinism Is the second time i bought this rope i bought the 60 meters rope and now I'm buying the 70 mts. one, I have use it in Ouray for ice climbing where the conditions are very icey in glaciar walking in the sierra madre mountains in Mexico and in Potrero el chico, Mexico which has very dry conditions with very sharpy edges. The belaying it is awsome beacue its a very friendly rope to handle, it is the best single rope for doing general alpinism but if you are going just to glaciar hiking it is a very thick model i would consider using other model l between 8mm to 9mm

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not really sure about this hype Ive had this rope for about 2 seasons now, and i have to say, Im not terribly impressed. The sheath began to fray after only a few sessions, and the rope goes soft very fast. I have had to chop the ends on mine 3 times already, and a fourth will soon be coming unless i get a new rope. Even petzl knows their ropes aren't up to snuff because they're re-doing their whole line of ropes. Its not as if this is a cheap rope, so i would just hold off until the new line comes out or look into something that is a bit more durable, like sterling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from don't leave home without it had this rope now for a few months now and took it out in the heat of the texas flat lands. good feel slightly stiff so clipping in to the draw seems effortlessly when your weak hand goes dead on you and doesn't want to respond to your will and desires of living to the next pitch. best part of the rope is the marked part in the middle of rope so you just how much rope is left between you and certain death. in the end rope is rope but if you want to live to the top, you will get this rope and be glad you spent the extra cash for it.
