This is a great helmet for just about everything! I picked one up at a garage sale in Moab last year, and have used it heavily ever since. It is easy to adjust, fits snugly, and is light enough you forget it is there. Over all, a solid helmet that you will get a lot of use out of! Good luck and happy climbing!
This is a pretty solid helmet. In cold weather it adjusts well over a skull cap and is plenty warm with the vents closed. Headlamp use is easy. It's difficult to adjust one handed, especially with gloves, but it doesn't need much tinkering. This wouldn't be my choice for a warm weather, big wall helmet as there are lighter and cooler options. But this is my go-to mountaineering helmet and it's comfortable enough that it's on my head all day long. Fortunately I haven't had to really test it against impact. But it's strong enough to use as a seat in the snow during dinner.
I have a pretty small head size and the size 2 will fit nicely. Size 1 must be for kids. The robust shell will mean this will last a lifetime. B big negative is that the strap length underneath the ears are limited (unlike cycling Giro helmets) so that you cannot slide the clip down to clear the ears more. Looks a little 'dorky', but all climbing helmets do.
Petzl brand helmets have proven themselves over the years. This is a great helmet!! We use it for wilderness search & rescue with K9s. Has vents so it is safe to use when we do cadaver water searches as well as wilderness work. Adjustable, washable lining, adaptable for a visor, head light etc. We highly recommend this helmet!! PW
"Lightweight and durable for a good price"

I've had this helmet for a few years and I have been very happy with it. The adjustable fit makes it easy to re-size for hats, and it's light enough that I can wear it all day without it being uncomfortable. Compared to some of the new foam helmets like the Meteor III it is very durable; you can stuff it in the bottom of a pack, knock it around, and it's no problem. The buckle will sometimes let slack out on its own and I'll have to tighten it back up, but that's a pretty minor annoyance. Basically, the Elios is a pretty cheap way to stay safe.
This is just what you would expect a mid-priced helmet from Petzl to be. It is not super light but not too heavy. It has good ventilation but not great. The blue is blue but not too blue. Overall it is good but not too good that you want to keep it in a display case.
While this isn't the absolute best helmet I've ever worn, it's still my helmet of choice. It fits snug on my very small head without a big gap in the back. It's also comfortable enough that I forget I'm wearing it even after a full day on the rock. The wheel adjustment in the back ensures that you can quickly and easily adjust it to a number of different heads if you're sharing with friends.
I really like the Petzel Elios. The straps are so easy to adjust and it really fits well. It also looks good, different than many other helmets. The adjusting system on the back is really good. I definitely recommend it.
I purchased this helmet for a durable piece for a successful sumit bid on Longs Peak in Rockey Mt Nat Park in August. It did a wonderful job, was comfortable, stayed in place well, and took all the beating and banging from the 37 miles of backpacking in the park before the sumit bid. I really like this versions removable soft pads that are alot more comfortable then the last version of this helmet and can be washed, because lets face it after hours of mountaineering or climbing they will become manky....
Petzl makes the best helmets in the industry IMHO. Great fit, super fast and easy to adjust the headband size by just turning the adjustment wheel a few clicks in either direction to tighten it up or loosen it up.Tip: If your head size falls in-between the 2 sizes - get the larger size - you won't be sorry. Especially if you ice climb them you will have extra room to bear a balaclava for winter underneath the helmet as well. And - Petzl offers a optional clear visor that you can mount yourself for ice climbing to protect your eyes from ice chips and flying ice!
