The Hammer by Petzl is for use with the Petzl Quark and Ergo ice axes. This ice axe hammer features a low profile trapezoidal shape that is great for wedging in cracks when climbing, and the angle of the contact surface coordinates perfectly with the curvature of the Quark's shaft. Don't stick your tongue to a cold metal surface outdoors, it may get stuck there. If this happens, simply cup your hands over the area and blow warm breath onto the metal until you can safely remove your tongue. I've heard that works.

Technical ice tool best for leadingThe Quark Ice Tool is great for lead climbing, where one have to place protection. The leash system on the tools makes this easier to do, because one can hang on the tool without really having to grip the tool. The Adze version allows removal of bad ice when placing protection. The Hammer version helps with hammering in the Petzl Hand Hook. One can use this tool as a leash-less tool for freestyle ice climbing, but the balance on this isn't really built for that. Instead, I'd recommend the Nomic.
