"Solid, yet slightly bulkier helmet" 01/27/12
This is a great helmet and the most secure helmet by Petzl if I'm correct. Comfortable once adjusted. My only beef is that It could be a bit more slim, like the Petzl Elios etc. Bomber construction though.
"Petzl's Burliest helmet" 12/27/11
This helmet is super solid, It's my first helmet and I've used it trad climbing and mountaineering, and it hasn't failed me yet. Pros: super bomber construction and it will last forever, pretty comfortable. and well made. Cons: Marginally bulkier than the petzl elios, but much safer in my opinion. It will last you years!
"The standard that other helmets are base on." 12/06/11
Great helmets for climbing facilities and camps. Weight is a little on the heavy side but that's what you get for something this durable. Very adjustable for fitting almost any head-size.I have purchased over 50 of these in the past 12 years for our climbing facility. Up to 10 year manufacturer lifespan (dependent on use and storage or course.. and whether your partner jars loose any rocks that bounce off your noggin!).Some cheaper helmets are available that I have looked at... but check the manufacturer's lifespans and how much you plan on using it. Many other manufacturer's models will only have a maximum 7 year life-span or less.... so for a few more bucks it can be well worth it!
"Super comfortable" 12/03/11
This product is great. It works against at least fist sized rocks from 100ft and adjusts to comfortably accommodate a hood (under or over), a beanie, or both. The dual adjustment wheels are a massive improvement over the standard single wheel in the back. They allow the head harness to be head-shaped and fit snug without cutting off circulation. I lost mine and am buying another.
"Covers the bases" 08/20/11
If I were to buy a new helmet, I'd probably make it a more stylish one. This one, as someone pointed out to me, is the "beginner" helmet. Which doesn't make me want to wear it any more. But it does the job, assuming you wear it.
"The Roc is a no-frills, no nonsense noggin protector that does what it's supposed to do !" 05/17/11
I bought a hand-ful of rocs for my crew to use during summer maintenance on ski lifts. These are a little heavier than others, but you can just feel the security that these brain-buckets offer ! The techs like the extra ventilation rocs afford; plus they offer some entertainment value when the occasional hornet buzzes by looking for a nifty condo to set up shop!
"safe, but not terribly comfy" 04/28/11
I used this for some climbing in potrero chico (mexico), where there was lots loose rock kicked down from above all the time. Definitely gave some piece of mind while belaying. I try to wear helmets in general, but sometimes while climbing I feel like it gets in the way, particularly if I'm trying to get around a roof or in tight spaces (chimneys, etc)...a few times I've hit the helmet and it gets knocked down over my eyes which is really annoying.
"Big ups for Petzl Ecrin Roc" 04/16/11
This helmet is light, stylish, and sits well on most heads. Thankfully I haven't had to test its durability, but it feels pretty solid to me. The only complaint I have is the adjusting mechanism. I am not a huge fan of the turn dials- they take a while to adjust and seem to lock up on me a lot.
"Totally Worth the Additional Cost" 03/28/11
Great and versatile helmet, perfect for big walls or people looking to get into search and rescue. Can also be used for water rescue. The plugs for the holes for winter months are hard to come by.
