The Croll Ascender by Petzl. When used with a chest strap and the ASCENSION or BASIC, the CROLL makes for a simple and efficient system for ascending fixed lines. The angled attachment hole keeps the device properly aligned on the chest.

The Croll Ascender by Petzl becomes very functional when used with a chest strap making a simple and efficient system for ascending fixed lines. This ascender is chrome plated with angled teeth and a self-cleaning slot securely grips the rope, even in muddy or icy conditions. Angled attachment hole keeps the device properly aligned on the chest for better efficiency in use. An upper hole is used to attach a shoulder strap. Safety catch prevents cam from opening too far, thus keeping the rope captured for safety. The rule from grade school "Safety First" still applies today.

"Good piece of caving gear" 12/08/11

Standard piece of gear for the frog system. Easy to clean, reliable to extremes, simple design. There is a reason that it is so commonly used!Wait for one of moosejaw's promotional deals and pick it up for a very good price, you will enjoy using it.

"Essential for Frog System" 11/22/11

Used this piece for the first time last weekend- it made ascending 220' feet of thick, stiff 11mm static caving rope incredibly easier than it would have been if I'd used one of my other ascending devices. It is made to work with a caving seat and chest harness, and it shines admirably at this task. I loved borrowing it so much, I bought my own the next day. One note- the rope may not always pass thru it when you extend your legs. Either hold the rope between your feet, or get a buddy to weight it beneath you.

"Great ascender, has more uses than you think." 07/20/11

This is a must have for anyone who does any type of ascending! Perfect for caving especially when rigged in a frog system or even a rope walker. Took it on its first trip and had a blast and of course it didn't have any problems with being on a very wet rope!
