The Aztar P Ice Tool by Petzl is a multi-purpose tool for use in alpine or ice climbing.
FEATURES of the Aztar Ice Tool by Petzl
- Comfortable to use, even leashless, due to the hand rest
- High performance swing due minimal weight at rotation point (minimized shaft weight)
- Efficient placements: thin, forged, finely worked pick for hard ice; steeply angled first tooth for thin ice and hooking
- Curved upper shaft for ease of placement and hooking
- Works well in piolet-canne usage: the hand rest can be removed and stored in the shaft (via a screw on the side) so as not to interfere when plunging the tool in snow
- Adze (U10 P) or hammer (U10 M) versions available
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Weight: 500 g
- Height: 50 cm
- BLUEICE pick included (type B)

"One BA Ice Axe!" 03/04/11
Great tool for vertical ice, they really bite/grip when needed. The leash is comfortable when your hands need that little break while hanging at 100 ft. The blade is set at a perfect angle. Used mine extensively in Canada this year. Wouldn't want any other axe!
"Excellent choice" 09/28/09
These tools are sturdy yet light and there's a very cool feel to the grip. I've used it for glacier crossing, in which case you really need to figure out a way to make the lash work for you. The blade has the perfect length to work accurately at different angles. It can easily take on ice/snow mixed routes.
"Great axe, light and very durable, but buy new leashes." 10/27/06
Great axes. etzl says they are used for Technical Alpinism but they work great on waterfall ice (WI grade). I believe that Petzl makes the best axes in the world, and i never leave home without mine. I usually do Alpine snow climbs and I could imagine a better tool. The picks come off easity when you need to sharpen them and the grip is nice. Only problem is the leash which is hard to adjust while your climbing.
