Product Description Item No.   10085046

The Petzl Ascension Ascender is a climbing ascender for gripping the rope and moving forward on the climb. The Ascension uses an ergonomically shaped handle for a more comfortable and secure grip in your hand. The molded plastic grip features a trigger with rubber over top for better control in wet and cold conditions. The cam is chrome-plated steel with angled teeth to grip the rope like a puppy snags a new toy. The self-cleaning slot allows the ascender to perform better when dirt, mud, and ice are factors along the climb. The frame of each ascender is color coded, black for left, gray for right; this way your kit can stay organized and less of a chance that you'll grab the wrong one.

FEATURES of the Petzl Ascension Ascender

  • Molded grip provides even greater comfort with a more ergonomically shaped handle. This shape keeps your hand from sliding to the bottom of the frame each time you pull on the Ascension. The bi-material handle includes a rubber over molded grip, increasing the comfort and grip in wet or icy conditions
  • Chrome-plated steel cam with angled teeth and self-cleaning slot securely grips the rope, even in muddy or icy conditions
  • Ergonomic trigger allows one-handed installation and removal
  • Mono-frame construction eliminates weaknesses and keeps the ascender lightweight and durable for years of use
  • The two attachment points allow for different uses (e.g. self- belaying, hauling systems, etc.)
  • Anodized frames are color coded for easy identification (black -left / gray -right)
  • Safety catch prevents the cam from opening too far, helping
  • To keep the rope captured for added safety
  • 1 cm secondary hole at the bottom will accommodate a screw link for attaching aiders, slings, etc

Rated 5 out of 5 by from you ever used a prussic to ascend 60 meters? these things are amazing... have you ever used a prussic to ascend 30+ meters? then ya you know... don't worry with the way this thing works its no problem... just slide and jug =) and this new model has an even more comfortable grip... the only thing better than one of these is two! no I'm serious... get both the left and the right!!! but if your only get one get the left hand... think about it you belay with your right hand right... so your back up belay device is gonna be locked of by you right hand (**if your right handed**),,,,if your even debating getting this smooth action easy to use wounder, you need one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and reliable. Ergonomic, too. Petzl has made a very nice piece of gear here. The handle is easy to grip and hold on to. The rope only passes one-way when the cam is engaged. And I've never had it damage the sheath. I especially like the large carabiner hole at the top to keep the rope from pushing the cam down (and killing you). Very handy to have when the nerves are a little shaky. This is my favorite ascender. I went ahead and purchased its evil twin, but in retrospect, I only needed one. I guess it's nice to have a complete set, though. I used it in my frog system along with a Petzl Croll (also awesome!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great Petzl product. Upgrade from previous versions. I am very happy with this ascender. I have used PMI, CMC, and other ascension devices for climbing rope and this is one of my favorites. It bites into the rope quite well when you need it to, and release easily when you don't. I own two of these, Right and Left, and use them in all my rescue and caving work. They're robust!!! Note: This is a lifesaving device and should be treated accordingly. It is made of aluminum which is NOT the strongest material in the world...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well finished and functional My hands are pretty small and these were big. I purchased a right handed Ascension and I actually found it easier to use it on the left hand! Because my 'trigger' finger is longer, it was easier to use my finger to move the lever than my thumb. It really doesn't matter which side you buy unless you are much stronger on one hand than the other (I'm ambidextrous). There's not too much to say except that it is well crafted and does what it needs to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top notch ascenders Great ascender. I havent used any other kind, but these ones are real smooth and so far they havent torn up my rope too much. a nick here and there, but what do you expect from aluminum needles. I especially like the lock out function of the cam which allows you to get it on and off a rope easily. and the best part....they double as a haul bag break so you dont have to carry a mini traxion!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this RIGHT now Other ascenders have torn up my rope, but there isn't even a tiny fray after using this. I have both the left and right, and they fly up rope. I feel confident dangling from one, they're easy to get on and off, I can't say enough good things about these. Oh, and less moving parts then the bd ascenders- my climbing buddy has those and we always end up relying on mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product -- But what do you expect from Petzl I bought a set of these about 6 years ago, mainly for ascending trees. Have really loved them and had no problems with them, as with 99.9% of petzl gear. As always they are worth the cost. "You get what you pay for" really holds true with these. Plan on taking them with me to Zion to do some canyons as soon as I get the chance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The measuring stick for acenders for a good reason Light, bombproof, and reliable caming mechanism make this the most widely used ascender out there. From El Cap to the Himalayas you'd be hard pressed to find a party on a serious mountain without some of these. ,,,,One thing I wished they'd do is enlarge the bottom hole more so you can pass a locker all the way through.
