The Am’D Ball Lock Carabiner by Petzl is a multi-purpose carabiner for connecting devices to harnesses or to use at the end of a lanyard. This carabiner has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio with a Keylock system that helps prevent snagging of the device during maneuvers. Three quick and simple motions are required for the gate to open, which greatly increases the level of safety, while the red indicator provides a visual warning when the carabiner is unlocked to leave you climbing or caving confidently when you go to double-check your gear. All Petzl carabiners are fitted with the patented anti-snag Keylock concept, which makes it easy to clip.

"A Must For Belaying" 09/12/11
I've used this as my full time bealy biner for 5 years now. And I've just bought my second one. The old style had a plasitc gate cover which is replaced with metal only adding to the durability. Excelent security with the auto-lock function and the keylock nose just makes it that much smoother to use. The symetrical shape helps to avoid pesky cross loading while lead belaying, but best of all, the ball lock is easily operated with one hand compared with the tri-act. Try opening a tri-act biner with one hand and you'll see that you need something to push against to help slide up the gate. With the ball it's just fast and easy, push and go security! Brillant!

Petzl Ball Lock Carabiner gets the job done. I switched to this from a screw gate biner and it took a bit to get used to, but now I'm there and I like it. I use it with a Gri Gri and it's worked well.

I like this carabiner better then the other two Petzl Am'D biners, triact or screw, because its ease of use. I can use this baby one handed if I have too plus it looks cool. Definitely count Petzl Am'D Ball Lock Carabiner as a selecting when choosing you next biner. Ferb

I love this auto locking biner. If you cherish your life and dont like worrying if you screwed your twistlock closed then you should definitely get this. Very easy to open with one hand when hanging for your life. I like simplicity when I am concentrating on hard moves or paying attention to the safety of my fellow climbers and I get it with this biner. GREAT PRODUCT
"Once you go locking, you never go back?" 05/29/09
This thing is GREAT for belaying and all that. I will admit I just hated it at first because it's not made for us south paws and I got irritated fumbling to get the gate open with my left hand to belay all the time. After 2-3 days at the gym using it though, I am a convert (just had to get used to reaching my finger through to get the ball lock open). I definitely suggest getting it for the added peace of mind it brings. Moreover, it opens wide like packman and it's strong as hell. Gonna buy one for my BF for his birthday!
