The Patagonia Women's Torrentshell Stretch Jacket is a waterproof/breathable jacket for hiking, climbing, and general strolling through the rains. The H2No® Performance Standard 2.5 layer nylon ripstop shell protects you from the watery sky while remaining breathable enough to prevent that sticky garbage bag feeling. The 2.5 layer stretch panels at the arms and shoulders provides all the movement you'll need to reach for the next hand hold, clamber over the tree across the trail, or pull your buddy back up to their feet after they fall in that puddle you pointed out a moment ago. A helmet-compatible hood, three pockets with zippers, pit-zips for cooling off when the heat rises, the jacket gets the job done when it comes to mobility in the rain. Once the rain stops falling, pack it up into hand pocket and store for later.

Women's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

• Boxy, athletic, with a traditional crew neck.

• Formfitting and longer in the torso, with a wider, deeper neck (not quite scoop).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional AND cute! I paired this with my Patagonia Retool on a July roadtrip across Iceland. We ran into ridiculously gusty winds, unseasonably chilly temps (3-7 C) and daily rain showers yet I never felt cold. This jacket kept me comfy through mountain hikes AND relatively cool at a hot geyser. Added bonus? It photographed great throughout my adventures! I am usually between an XS and S but sized up to a S in case I needed to add extra layers in addition to the relatively bulky Retool. Most days I wore a tank, long sleeve baselayer and the fleece underneath and I never felt restricted. An XS probably would've worked but I liked having the extra room.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from too tight in the pits I was hoping for an upgrade from my Rain Shadow jacket. I live in rainy Southeast Alaska and water proof gear is very important to me. I'm 5'3, 115 pounds, petite build. Every Patagonia jacket I've owned has been an XS, however, the XS in this jacket digs into my pits. If it was just a little bit tight I would live with it, but it the way the seam digs right in is not something I could tolerate for more than a minute. It fit great everywhere else, but a little long and sleeves were long. I don't think the next size up would fit and I don't want to pay the extra postage to find out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Shell-Good Fit I decided to upgrade my current shell for an upcoming trip to Norway and Iceland. I prefer to layer and my existing jacket was a little snug. This one is true to size. I ordered a woman's large. I'm 5'7 and the arms are a little long, but that is good for taller people. I am able to use the velcro to keep it at my wrist. The jacket is roomy and will allow for the needed space to layer with heavier insulation/fleece underneath. The zippers are waterproof and the fabric does provide some stretch. I also appreciate the ability to stuff into the pocket for a small travel item. I got the red color which is a little more orange than I expected. If my other shell weren't green, I would have gone with that color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Wife Loves This Jacket I got this jacket for my wife and it has exceeded all expectations. We were both impressed with how hearty the material was. This jacket could definitely take a lickin' and keep on a tickin'. Not to mention the fit was fantastic on her. It's snug in all the right places. She got a medium and she's 5'7 with a slim athletic build. This is now her "go-to" jacket. I nailed this gift.

Is the material of this jacket very different from the material used in the Patagonia Torrentshell rain jacket? How stretchy is the material? Is it more soft or more slick (slick like a typical rain jacket)? Thanks!

Asked by: cgarrett
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! The Patagonia Torrentshell Stretch Jacket and Patagonia's Torrentshell Jacket are both made of ripstop nylon. The Stretch version gives you more mobility throughout the arms and shoulders.
