It's definitely a more expensive option than capilene baselayer's, but it's absolutely worth it! It's extremely comfortable and provides exceptional warmth when layered. The difference is in how breathable and multi-purpose it is as well. I've worn it on early fall runs on its own, and as the baselayer in a Massachusetts winter. It's great all year round for brief summer chills and also deep winter colds. My last point is that even after frequent use, it repels odor and lasts, I've had mine for about 4 years with extensive use and it's still in fine shape.
