When a women like me in my 50s is looking for a coat ,style really matters. I always have been athletic, although have to admit a little soft lately, so a coat to zip myself into and look this great is soooo awesome. Perfect for running my errands or running after a hot looking guy. The flashy ruby color caught my eye and hopefully it will his too : )
"Love the coat but the material is failing"
I purchased the Patagonia Women's Low Sky Parka in dark ruby from a year or so ago as my "professional" coat. I'm on only my 2nd winter with this coat, which I only wear to work (I commute in my car), and the coat looks AWFUL. The material is turning black on the butt area from sitting and where the seatbelt cuts across the front. The coat looks extremely dirty even though it is not. I washed it twice in an effort to get the black off and it is not going away. It's as if the color has rubbed off! I can no longer wear it to work because it looks dirty and unprofessional. I paid over $200 for this jacket and I got only ONE season out of it! I can still wear it to say, a bonfire party or something, but not out in daylight as it makes me look... dirty.I cannot speak for the other colors, but I'd stay away from dark ruby if I were you.
I was looking for a long padded coat like this, and I tried a lot of different brands on. The Northface one that is very popular is warmer than this coat, but much less flattering. I love this coat because it gives more of a feminine silhouette. It's warm in the winter, and comfortable to wear over a hoodie or sweater. Easy to spot clean. Wish it had a hood.
Bought this coat as a gift. I ordered the dark ruby color which is a great alternative to black. Living in the north east this coat is great to wear with layers and hits mid theigh. The coat sizing runs true to size.
You may think that was an overstatement but seriously. It's got Patagonia's warmth and gorgeous color (I bought the one in green), but the way it fits is glorious. It feels like an updated version of the North Face Metropolis. The quilted pattern makes it a little snazzier and it definitely flatters better than the Metropolis (I've owned both). This is obviously not a coat for the Arctic or the Antarctic but with some layering it will suit me just fine for the freezing midwest winter.
