The jacket is light weight but fights the wind nicely. There is a fleece backing inside the jacket to keep you warm enough but not over heated. Just right for Texas winters.

This jacket is the perfect weight for fall/early winter time or when it's just too nice for my heavier jacket. It's also heavier than Mountain Hardwear's Offwidth Jacket, which is much appreciated. I love the fit and the way it stretches. Be aware however that the colors in the photos are off a bit. I ordered Fennel originally because it looked gorgeous in the photo, yet when I opened it at home, I gasped. The color is wild and not in a good way. I sent it back and got the Storm color, also a much lighter color than the photo, but very pretty in person.
got this for my sister for falls and winters on the east coast. it is awesome in rain, wind, and snow, and super comfy. it is not very thick and heavy, so its great for layering....the only downside is that the pockets are not very warm on the hands (which is why i believe mittens were invented!)worth the investment, and cool color selection too!
"Bought this Jacket for my wife SHE LOVES IT!!!"

After looking at different softshells for the Great Northeast I found the Patagonia Guide Jacket. Its my wifes Jacket and it looks AMAZING, she loves it and it has rapidly become her go to jacket, for 99 % of the activities we do.
I have a slightly different version of this jacket (only bc it is about 5 years old). It is still in great condition. I consider it old faithful. It keeps me nice and toasty in Florida winters (which have a high humidity, so it is actually a wetter cold, especially when the wind blows). Not sure about expeditions, I would of course layer if I were going to be out in the cold for an extended period of time. If you just want a jacket to wear around town and into the woods occasionally, this will last you forever.
I own a slightly different version mine is hooded and is lined with a little fleece from three years ago. But I actually wear it on windy scattered rainy days. I layer an R1 under it when it is a little colder. I love the stretch of the jacket and the fit is flattering. The DWR has held up well even after 3 years of use.
This is a clean jacket for a windy day and a great color. My X-girlfriend used to like it so much that, this was right on top of her deck and was the first pick after she tied her lace!! Go for it! Great jacket at a great price!
