The Patagonia Women's Downtown Loft is a 600 fill down winter jacket that can stand up to the coldest of winters. Don't let the name of this jacket fool you, though.... while it is perfect as an urban outer layer, it can also hold its own on outdoorsy pursuits. Stuffed with incredibly warm goose down insulation and protected with a 100% satin polyester shell with a Deluge® DWR (durable water repellent) finish, the Downtown Loft will shield you from the elements. Throw on this jacket and go for a snowy winter stroll; if it gets too cold you can pop up the insulated hood (which stashes inside itself) for added warmth. Or wear it about town in the winter and people-watch all the shivering pedestrians in their flimsy jackets.

So, I live in Jackson. Not Jackson, Florida. Not Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson, Wyoming. Where our high over Christmas was -16, and that's normal. It got up to 24 today, and I thought it was kind of toasty. You know why? because I have this really awesome down coat that packs into nothing and practically weighs nothing. So a couple of things: most important, it's warm. Probably not that important: it's a little michelin man-ish compared to my other lighter down jacket. I bought it a size big, so that might be my bad. Next, probably the fact that it sheds down like a Bernese Mountain Dog, but you get that with down stuff. Last, and kind of an overall synopsis, I love this jacket. It's warm, it doesn't have a namebrand plastered all over it, it has these pockets - I don't know what they're made out of, but they trap body heat especially well, so every time you put your hands in to warm them up it's like slipping them into a handwarmer. I think it's worth the money.
I bought this in both short and long versions. It had 800 fill down, was the warmest of the light down parkas, and FAR more stylish and flattering. The stitching made me look shapely even though I was enveloped in lots of warm down. Easy to travel with because it packed down to nothing. Now it's 600 fill and the stitching looks like I threw my bedcovers on and walked out the door. Because of the poor down quality it'll be bulky so I wouldn't want to travel with it.This is 2-3 steps down in quality. Patagonia, what happened? This is a different, inferior coat. Why did you use the same name for this year's model?
I live in Colorado and wanted something warm enough to keep me toasty warm on our coldest days. This is coat is not only warm, but comfortable and beautifully made. I bought the wax red color which is absolutely gorgeous. I get compliments on this coat every time I wear it. The cut is slim so the jacket drapes nicely against the body without making me look like a marshmallow. The material is satiny smooth and feels light against my skin. This is perhaps the nicest jacket I've ever worn and well worth the money.
I purchased this coat last year but returned it due to fit issues. But Patagonia improved the fit this year and I'm very pleased! Last year, the coat was too long (I'm 5'8"), the sleeves were disproportionately wide, and the hood/collar laid funny. This year the length is perfect, the sleeves are much more normal in width, and the hood/collar lays much better because they added a zipper and button loop to hold it in place. I'm a happy camper, especially since I got this coat on a great sale from Moosejaw! I'm a size 4/6 in tops and purchased this coat in size Medium. On a side note, the product description says the zipper is two-way for easier sitting, but it's not. It's just a regular zipper.
