The Patagonia Women’s Capilene 4 EW ¼-Zip Hoody is a warm base layer for winter activity. The Capilene 4 is called EW for Expedition Weight, as it is the warmest in the Capilene line. The waffle grid pattern looks super cool and also has plenty of functionality. It’s soft on the inside against your skin and smooth on the outside, making it easy to slide on additional layers. The hood is close-fit and wraps around your face comfortably to keep your neck warm and ears. The drop tail can be tucked in to prevent any drafts and thumb loops to keep sleeves in place. Throw an energy gel in the chest pocket before you hit the slopes, where it’ll stay close to your body to prevent freezing. Nobody wants a gel-popsicle in frigid temps.

I'm 5'4" 120's DD, usually wear XS or S in Patagonia. I ordered this in a M and glad I did. The M allows me to put a close fitting layer under. I like that this is a bit longer in the back, good to throw on over yoga tights to CYA. Great layering piece and I wear it year round. Very flattering, I just ordered another!
I wish i could afford 5 of these, one for each day of the week and i would wear them all winter. I work outdoors 8 hours a day as a grounds maintenance supervisor, and a lot of my activities are prolonged exertion which makes me sweat even though it's in the 30s i never have to worry that my shirt is going to need changing after i slow down on the work and need to drive around campus on the open air Gator. I realize this is not adventure or Everest but at 20 miles an hour in a four wheeler makes for a cold winter day and i really don't want my shirt to be wet. The Capilene Expidition weight is of course very cozy and warm in addition to being dry, the softest capilene IMHO but very low profile, not high pile. The fit is ridiculously perfect, feels like it was made just for me (size M, 5'9", 135#, broadish shoulders) but if it wasn't for the price i found here, i wouldn't own the one i have as they are pricy and worth it.
