Women's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

• Boxy, athletic, with a traditional crew neck.

• Formfitting and longer in the torso, with a wider, deeper neck (not quite scoop).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you're super cool and awesome, buy this and make your friends even more jealous. So I got this bad boy last Christmas after much internal debate between it and another Patagonia Sweater... and I came out with a giant win. I'm 5'8", 140 pounds, and normally wear a small/medium. I got a medium and the arms are the perfect length as is the body and I have room to throw a base layer or long sleeve underneath; I'd describe the medium as comfy fitting. I wore it yesterday with a cute scarf, skinny jeans, and my TOMS to dinner with my friends; today I wore it while hiking with my boyfriend. It's warm yet still breathable (but not wind proof mind you). I love it and wear it all the time, do yourself a favor and buy one to snuggle in or go adventuring in this fall :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfiest jacket ever, great for travel! I am a frequent traveler, going everywhere from India to Los Angeles, and this jacket has become my newest go-to to take along. It's warm, without being too warm, comfy without looking too casual, and small enough to "throw in" the suitcase as an extra layer. It washes well without pilling, and fits my long arms and long torso. I like that it's not your typical "fitted" style, and doesn't hug you all over the place. I sized up to a medium from my usual small so I could wear a layer underneath it comfortably, but if you like your jackets fitted with just a t-shirt underneath you'll be good with your regular size. Thanks Patagonia for another true winner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect fleece This fleece is very warm and cozy, but the outer "sweater" portion doesn't pill in the same way as a fleece and gives the jacket a slightly more formal look. I have it in black and it is quite sophisticated, I can wear it over a dress or out on a mountain. I am 5'5'' and 110 lb and in the older model, small fit just right (snug but comfortable). Note that the new 2015 model is wider in the waist area across all sizes (Patagonia has stated this on their website), which made a small seem to swallow me but the XS was too tight in the arms and shoulders. I am glad that I was able to find the older model since it fits my body shape better (narrow bust and waist, long arms).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, Good Layering Piece My Better Sweater is my go-to outer layer in the fall or spring, and a great mid-layer for the winter here in Michigan. I love that I can fit a long-sleeve underwear layer, and tank underneath this more than comfortably, and still fit my Atom LT over it for those colder winter weather times. ,,I'm 5'4'' and have broader shoulders, and the medium fits me with a little extra room for those really cold, three-layer kind of days. If you're looking for a tighter fit, go for the small--it should fit you if you don't have swimmer's shoulders. ,,Definitely get this jacket if you're looking for a solid, mid-layer fleece.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I really like the Sweater Jacket. I bought this to replace my beloved charcoal gray fleece I bought in the late 90s. I would give 5 stars if it were available in a dark gray, and if so many other reviewers hadn't mentioned the pilling. I haven't worn mine much yet, but that worries me.,,I'd also like to request that Patagonia please be more accurate when saying its vests & jackets are "hip length." This carries the same description as the Retro-X but the Sweater Jacket looks SEVERAL inches longer -- and for me, that's the perfect length. More precise measurements in a product description would be great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm, soft, great-looking, well-made. I've been lusting after one of these for a while, so I finally found myself with some extra cash and bought myself one. I love the way it feels, and I have extremely long arms for my skinny frame, so usually Patagonia's stuff fits me better than other stuff. These arms weren't quite as long as I remember, but they still work. The jacket is warm, the variety of colors are nice, and it's really well-made with great attention to detail. I got it in the summer, so I haven't worn it much yet, but it's one of the big reasons I'm looking forward to fall. I see myself wearing this pretty much all the time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Jacket - new design elements not so good I buy this jacket every season and I appreciate they make minor design adjustments from time to time. But this season the jacket is a good 3-4 inches longer than previous versions. And no, I didn't shrink my last one. The zipper obviously doesn't shrink. Holding the zipper length up to my jacket from last year it's a huge difference, and the difference shows. This jacket hits mid hip, not even close to my waist. It's a big difference from all the fleeces I've bought in the past and I don't love it as a result.,,Quality, fabric, all excellent. The new length isn't working for me though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice alternative to a regular fleece jacket I like this jacket - it caught my eye in the store right away. It's nice that it has the warmth of fleece, and the interior is what you would expect from a fleece, but the outside looks like a knit sweater. I have a lot of fleece in my closet so a different look gave me a good excuse to get another. It also makes it look slightly dressier than the norm. As far as fit - I always think Patagonia runs slim so I order up a size generally so that I can layer - and I like my jackets a little on the baggy side. I also found the arms long - but this is typical for Patagonia for me as well.
