Originally purchased a cheapy backpack to use in my first semester of college but quickly realized what an awful decision I had made. It could barely hold more than one book, it lacked pockets on the side, and it was impossible to stay organized because it only had one compartment- BOY am I glad I ordered this one as a replacement. Not only does it have all of the features that my previous bag lacked, it's also a great color! (I ordered desert turquoise) I was a little hesitant to spend this much on a backpack, but it's definitely been one of the best purchases that I've made.
Use this backpack for college and travel does the trick carrying a laptop while keeping its form if you are only packing cloths or books (doesn't become C shaped like other backpacks) has a good stiff back which is nice. Highly recommend it.
I was skeptical that this bag wouldn't fit my seven pound Dell M4700 laptop, but it does. Actually, I managed to fit a weekends worth of clothing, chargers, toiletries and my laptop into this bag. I suspended all of this on my back and took my '07 r6 250 miles at 70+ mph in 35 degree farenheit temps. It was night and day compared to my big box store backpack I kept from my college days. The straps on the side allow you to tighten the profile of the bag which keeps it from catching wind gusts at highway speeds. It was very comfortable and I am pleased with my purchase.
I use this pack for both school and snowboarding. It's extremely comfortable when it is fully stocked up with books and a laptop. The water resistant fabric is a great addition is case you get stuck in a little rain trekking through campus. Overall, this this is amazing!
Very durable, lots of convenient pockets. Very comfortable straps. Has a padded pocket for laptop and a zipper pocket at the top with a headphone opening. I've been running through the rain with it for the past 3 days, and nothing inside gets wet. Great backpack, and for a much better price than in stores! It also has whistle attached to the chest strap that made my mom very happy.
"Rocks the campus and travel like no other."
This pack is awesome saucesome. It handles school stuff like it hasn't even had breakfast yet and after 5 months in China, it raised an eyebrow as if to say, "That's all? Pfft."The side pockets are spacious enough to fit two small bottles, or a big one. They are a little loose, so sometimes bottles do escape. The laptop compartment is safe and secure, fits my 13" Macbook easily. I never worry. The large compartments are spacious, and the smaller organizers and top pocket are super nifty. Perfect for day/few day trips. The straps can be tight around the neck and shoulders, but I took a reviewer's advice and hung it on a hanger with weights for a week to break it in, and had no problem. Only complaint is that a ripcord across the front would be useful. The side compression straps are pretty useful. Mine has no damage so far, and doesn't seem to be wanting any. Overall, it's a great pack, totes worth the price, and stylish to boot. Patagonia rocks!
"This pack went through a semester of college and five months in China LIKE A ROCKSTAR."
This pack is the best backpack I've ever had. I specifically got this one because it DID NOT have waist straps, and I have rarely wished for them. I got it for college, and as a day pack for a semester abroad in China. It performed awesomely up and down mountains, through cities and airports, as well as across campus. The side pockets can hold two small bottles or a large one easily. Bottles can slip out sometimes but I'm not bothered by it. The pack itself can hold lots o' stuff in the two main compartments, which was perfect while backpacking through China. The laptop sleeve easily fits my 13" Macbook and I never worry about it being damaged. The pack has had no damage whatsoever in the year I've had it. The straps were a little tight around the shoulders, but I took the advice from a reviewer and hung it on a hanger with weights for the first week I had it. It broke them in quite nicely. My only wish is that the front had a ripcord, which would have been handy. Overall, LOVE IT<3
