I bought this jacket a few months ago and it has been great as a casual rain jacket. I'm 6' 195 and the large fits pretty well. There isn't much room for layering, but then again I have broad shoulders which stretches the jacket out a little bit. Does a solid job of shielding rain and the hood is great (adjustable and sits/holds well even in the wind). Only drawback are the shallow hand pockets. I would definitely bring this on shorting hiking trips, but if you're going to run into any nasty weather be sure to get something a little more heavy duty.
I bought this torrentshell to cover all the duties I could use it for - hiking in a downpour, foul weather on the film set, walking the dog in a pour when my winter jacket shell would get soaked through... It's certainly waterproof but the selling point for me is the mobility it offers. Great if you need maneuverability, twisting turning sprinting lifting reaching. Doesn't feel constricting like some rain jackets. It also doesn't get heavy when wet, is super light and easily stowable. Fully adjustable everywhere. Looks good to boot. Really nothing to complain about - everything you'd expect from a good torrentshell plus the confidence to move around and the quality of Patagonia. Buy it.
