Men's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Quality and Perfect Fit Unlike other Patagonia products I have purchased in the past, this jacket is a true to size fit. I am 6'2" and about 195lbs. I purchased the size Large. The Torrentshell is not bulky, the sleeve length is perfect and the overall length is about perfect. Other brands I tried on were either too long in the torso or too bulky. This one was a perfect fit for me. ,,,,I have worn the jacket in multiple downpours and have kept incredibly dry. Great on a trail and equally as impressive for my city dweller lifestyle. The functionality, ventilation, quality and weight of the jacket is outstanding. I hope to enjoy it as much as I do now for years to come.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for your average rain but i wouldnt trust this in a monsoon I bought this rain jacket to be used for my upcoming trip of walking around Bali, Indonesia. I recently used this jacket while on the Teton Crest Trail. It seemed to work well in light rain but I'm not convinced on the waterproofness. We were in a medium downpour and my t-shirt underneath got pretty wet. I dont think it was from the condensation, although it doesn't seem to breath super well either. Around the shoulder areas it seemed to let a bit of water in. Also the hood doesn't seem to come forward enough. The front half of my forehead is exposed. Guess I will see soon how it hold up in SE Asia. Good for the money I suppose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great low-price rain shell Gore-Tex it ain't, but if you're looking to get a versatile rain shell without breaking the bank, this might just be the one for you. The Torrentshell is lightweight, packable, made from totally waterproof material, and has great features like pit zips and an adjustable hood. Plus it looks pretty baller with its slim fit and the wide variety of colors. The zippers are not waterproofed, though, so you might get wet if you really spend a lot of time in the rain. As a backup rain shell for a cloudy day, though, this is hard to beat. It kept me dry and protected from unexpected hail, sleet, and 60 mph winds while summitting one of CO's 14ers last August.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top for the price The PAT Torrentshell is one of the best options you can find for the price. Most people are always battling between the MRM Precip, TNF Venture and the PAT Torrentshell. After trying on all three and getting some good experience with them I can honestly say this is the best bang for your buck. Awesome for water repel, PAT did compensate for layering with this jacket by making the sizes a little bit larger whereas with other styles they still have the very athletic cut. Pit zips to keep condensation building inside. In my opinion this jacket out performed the MRM Oracle Jacket which is almost the same thing but a $50 price difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made me an abolute fan of H2NO This jacket seriously holds it's own in heavy rain and thunderstorms. All rain gear needs pit vents in my opinion and the Torrentshell has them. I thought at first they could be bigger, but after use in storms, I realized bigger would let in water. This jacket has a pretty close, but not restrictive fit. I'm 5'10" and went for the large. It fits well and I can easily wear a base layer and a low bulk fleece layer under it. It breathes surprising well for a rain jacket. Makes an outstanding year round rain coat. Packs tiny and weight is feather light. I keep one in the car and one in the pack. This has become essential gear for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you're looking for functional & simple rainwear at a great price look no further! Patagonia does it again! This is a great piece in terms of fit & performance. Classic styling, no unnecessary bells & whistles & the jacket stays put when I raise my arms over my head! I'm 5'11" 185 lbs. & the men's L fits me perfectly.,,,,The Torrentshell kept me dry while hiking Ithaca, NY's gorges. I haven't worn this jacket for many miles, but I did wear it with a 20 lb. pack in 50 degree rain while dealing with a lot of elevation gain & loss while getting pummeled with spray & mist from massive falls.,,,,Take care of it, keep the DWR fresh and use the pit zips BEFORE you overheat & I expect this baby will keep you dry inside & out for many years to come. ,,,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bomber for the price and weight. Last October, four fifths of the way up a small mountain in Alaska with a friend of mine, I got caught in a freak wind, hail, and rain storm. I didn't even have time to put on my fleece, so it was just the Torrent Shell over my long underwear. The rain and hail were coming at us so hard it felt like we were being sandblasted. I could feel each individual drop of freezing rain and hail through the shell. It was too windy to talk. We climbed backwards with our backs to the wind to the top of the peak, gave each other that "what the f* are we doing here?" look, and then ran back down. My arms were dotted red where I'd been hit by hail, but I was totally dry. Awesome coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good construction, good quality body: long arms, wide shoulders, ~170 lbs, 6 feet and 2 inches height,,Bough this jacket in a balsam (relevant?) size medium. The arm length was fine (long enough to pass the wrists). It is somewhat slim on me (size says it is regular fit) and it had space for maybe a shirt (I had a dress shirt on at the moment) and another layer. I did find it somewhat short and doing research it is at 24 inches length (body wise) and the shoulder seam seemed to be too short.,,FYI. I talked to someone at patagonia today and she said that the arm length was 1inch longer from a Medium to a Large and a 3inch difference for the body.
