The Men's Stand Up Short by Patagonia are made from rugged 10-oz organic cotton canvas to thwart climbing's abusive tendencies. They're rugged yet comfortable, and with three available inseams, you can get them the length you feel best in. Doubled fabric in the seat increases durability and forms two rear pockets; a set-in pocket holds a wallet. The hardworking canvas softens and personalizes with age.

"OK, Let me be the voice of reason."  04/20/12

With eight stellar reviews, I was prepared to be impressed. Nope. A few comments to help shoppers: the fabric is incredible - feels like it would be very durable. The back pockets are enormous and look nothing like I've seen on men's shorts before (or want to again). Perhaps if you're moving out of an apartment and don't want to buy boxes, it would be handy - but unnecessary (and unflattering) for those who own a home. (you know what I mean) Also, the legs of the shorts flare in a way that only Jack from Three's Company could appreciate. Sorry, Patagonia - I wanted to love you.

"Best short going"  03/19/12

These shorts are bullet proof - I've owned a few different pairs of the Stand Up over the years and they are my go to short for all kinds of activities, whether it's a good spring ski day, a long hike or just hanging around doing nothing. The shorts are of great quality - rugged fabric that wears very well and they're cut to fit just right. There is no waste of fabric or bulkiness that so many other shorts tend to have - if I had to choose one short to wear for the rest of my life, it would be the Stand Up.

"Best shorts ever"  07/05/11

These shorts are the best ever. I've bought them for my husband for many years now. We went from 5" back when shorter was o.k., now buy 7" as we are a little "older" now and longer shorts are in. Can't seem to find any shorts that come close to Patagonia Stand-Up Shorts. They are durable for work (construction) and classy for play. It takes a lot to wear them out (we have worn a few pair out, but it takes years of hard work & play, plus lots of washings)... and these shorts wash and dry beautifully! I buy several pairs when I can find them on sale. They are a good buy at regular price, but on sale, they rock! We have yet to find a close second.

"These shorts are the Bee's Knees!"  05/01/11

I bought these shorts a few weeks ago and they are all I want to wear right now. My girlfriend calls them shorty shorts that she doesn't like but who cares what she thinks and besides, they are not very short anyways. I have pretty nice legs anyways so I can pull them off. They are stylish and tough when it comes to being in the great outdoors. I bought the khaki color and right now currently am trying to balance the budget to buy the brown color now. If you are even considering buying these shorts, don't think just do it! You will wear them until they fall apart from washing them too much a number of years later. Big ups to Patagonia their clothes are always the freshest!

"The BEST"  01/24/11

These shorts are no doubt the best shorts made in my opinion. I have owned at least 25 different pairs since they started making them with a 7" inseam. Can't go wrong with khaki or the green color. Interested to see if the smoke color is as cool as the old graphite. BUY these shorts they are the best. Plus they are patagonia so you know they are good quality organic cotton.

"Very good, stand up to use and stay clean"  11/17/10

These shorts are awesome! comfortable, with many pockets. They don't wrinkle easily due to the thick cotton and thus look good for many wears without washing. Definitely recommend

"Bad Ass shorts for the Bad Ass guy"  01/25/10

Unbelievable comfortable even after you wash them, and wash them, and wash them. Ok I'll admit, I've had them a while and I've only washed them three times. C'mon you know how it can be!! Some of the most comfortable shorts that I have ever worn. Still looks good but holds up to all types of activities.Get em while they are hot!!

"Useful, durable shorts with big back pockets."  09/20/09

I went a whole week wearing only these shorts. Nobody else noticed. They have a huge pocket in the back that is large enough to accommodate a paperback book/field notebook/wallet/small thermonuclear device. The Wildwood color is slightly greener than they will appear on your monitor, but not enough to be a problem. They are slightly stiff when you pull them out of the dryer but are very supple after 24 hours on. Fit is as stated (30" really is 30") and they're very comfortable, especially after several consecutive days. For three or more weeks of field work, I'd recommend two pairs, alternating. I've found that they are fairly splash resistant but it depends on the fluid.
