For as tough as this jacket is, it's surprisingly lightweight. I took it out bouldering this spring, and the fabric showed virtually no abrasion from the rocks or briars. It's got an athletic fit (great with a Merino 2 baselayer), but it also accommodates a 1/4-zip sweater for a more professional look. Note: it's wind & water *resistant* (i.e., you can shrug off droplets, and it helps cut the wind, but you're still going to get wet and cold without a shell). My version doesn't have the hook & loop cuffs, but they'd definitely help to keep hands clear for climbing. Love the chest zip. By far the best jacket I own.
Great soft shell. thin, light, can take layers underneath, cuts wind, warm, "super soft shell". its a great jacket for spring and fall days. maybe even great for summer too. i wear a R1 or R2 fleece under when i need to. i am 5'8", 150lbs and i got a medium. the jacket is thin so it will let some wind through. sleeves are long like all patagonia gear.
This is just what I hoped for in a wind breaker type jacket. I have the men's medium R3 fleece and it fits over it just perfectly. I was hoping they fit together well and they do. Once again Patigonia has delivered a superior product to me via Moosjaw. I can't wait to french kiss my girlfriend in a driving snow while wearing this super kick ass jacket !
when most of us look for a 'soft-shell' jacket, we tend to compare fabric to North Face Apex kind of material. Thats not true with this jacket. Its much much more breathable that NF Apex, but kind of thin. I just wish It was little thicker like it seems in the picture.
