"Provide great range of motion for climbing, hard to clean." 03/07/12
These pants are killer for climbing: very stretchable and allow great maneuverability. I wish they were a bit shorter since I like to see my feet for dime sized foot chips, but I just roll them up for technical climbing. Average breath ability (nylon) and very fast drying. The only down side is that the hydrophobic material makes them hard to clean. Waist is true to size.
"Thin, water repellent, order up" 01/10/12
My son loves these, normally wears 28-30 waist - 30 length in pants ordered a 30 since my experience is Patagonia tends to run a bit small, the 30 fits with no room to spare in waist/hip area and some extra room in length. They taper slightly at ankles so the extra length is fine and won't drag. They are a bit thinner than I expected but my son loves them
"Lightweight, durable, and stylish" 12/15/11
You can't go wrong with Patagonia- that's my motto at least. These pants are great. They are really lightweight, yet they are surprisingly durable. They are a great hiking pant but they look so dang good, I also wear them casually. I once wore them everyday for two weeks. True story.
"Great pants that can fly!" 10/04/11
Ok, Im lying about the flying... but still great pants. Most of my outdoorsy pants come from the cheap outdoors stores and I usually pay around $20 for them. So when I got these for $80 I was skeptical about if these pants were worth 4 pairs of cheap pants, and guess what! They are well worth it. These are by far the most comfortable climbing and backpacking pants I've ever owned. They have also held up very well and Im hoping they'll last at least 4 times as long as the cheap ones, and if patagonia's reputation is for anything its for long lasting clothes.
"Great Pants" 06/29/11
Great material, light weight and stretchy. The DWR is awesome. Only problem I had was the cut. The bottom of the pants were really wide. They had a nice fit through the thigh but then kinda bell bottomed out. Wasn't a fan of that. The Simple Guide Pants have more of a straight cut.
"Passed the Tetons Test" 06/27/11
Had these for a while and recently put some serious mileage on them in Grand Teton National Park. They saw just about every kind of action I could muster - climbing, hiking, biking, etc. Durable despite a number of tumbles, falls, slips, slides, etc. I've been very pleased with the material - stretchy and breathable, and no trouble getting a leg up high. The cuffs stay rolled pretty well for working on something more technical with your feet. Only real criticism is the cut - I'm a really skinny dude and I found them a bit baggy. There is a lot of give in the fabric, don't hesitate to order them a little tight in the waist.
"Very lightweight softshell" 05/18/11
Good for summer conditions. Stretchy and breathable, and well suited to rock climbing. Conservative enough to wear to work (in a good way).I think one good granite offwidth might be the end of them though.
"So far the best climbing pants I've worn" 05/06/11
I climb a lot of sandstone-like rock and if you know sandstone, they are like sandpaper. It is common to scratch, scrap your pants as you climb. Most other 100% cotton-based pants will fray after a few pitches of climbing sandstone. These pants showed no sign of wear and tear after a month of solid sandstone climbing. These pants have a fair amount of stretch that makes it possible to pull off those high leg moves without having to fight the fabric. Due to the fabric composition, they tend to cling to your leg and gets worse when you are sweating. However, they do dry pretty quick. If you want a thin, flexible, durable, light-weight climbing pants, these are a must have.
