Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't get caught in a downpour without it! I bought this jacket to take with me on the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu because I'd be doing the 4-day trek during rainy season. The Rain Shadow has sealed zippers while the Torrentshell doesn't; that was a key factor in me purchasing the Rain Shadow over the Torrentshell.,,,,It rained about a third of the time on the Inca Trail and the Rain Shadow did an outstanding job of keeping me dry. The armpit zippers helped to vent heat so I didn't get clammy and the velcro cuffs didn't allow water to get in. ,,,,The jacket can be rolled up into its hood--about the size of a softball; you have no excuse to not have it with you at all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice lightweight rain jacket with good features I was looking for a lightweight rain coat that was pretty breathable and very packable. This one fit the bill perfectly, with a good fit and fine attention to detail. The pit zips are a nice feature, as is the inside zip pocket for your wallet or similar item. The hood is also designed to fit quite well and offer excellent protection from the elements.,,,,I like the fact that it's a stylish jacket in a subtle way, yet totally designed for excellent outdoor usage. There's really nothing not to like about this jacket. I am 5'11" (200 lbs) and I ordered an XL in this case and it fits fine... a little bit roomy, which is what I like in a rain jacket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Probably the worst raincoat I've owned... I have owned this jacket for a few years now. SO this might fall on me and not the jacket, but after a year or so the jacket basically ceased to keep out water. Maybe I was supposed to apply sealant or water repellant to it? Not totally sure. I've owned plenty of jackets and I've never had to do that... Anyhow, the jacket basically stopped keeping out water. I'd wear it out in the rain and end up completely soaked. No Bueno.... especially since it is not a cheap jacket. I honestly cannot recommend this jacket to anyone. Also, during summer rain storms the jacket was not breathable at all. It was like wearing a garbage bag. Gross.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty displeased I've had this about 20 months now and I can't recommend it. The fabric doesn't breathe well and this is especially problematic once the DWR finish needs a refresh, which in this case, is at about the 6-8 month range. The jacket is still waterproof, but it won't matter much because the fabric loses all breathability so you'll be generating all the moisture you need from inside. The interior of the shell is also extremely delicate. I just noticed a hole in the inside fabric, and I've used this jacket fairly lightly (because of the previous problems, this jacket quickly became an "around-the-town" piece.) In all, I can't recommend this jacket. It does look nice and fit well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Total H2NO is the right name for this shell!!! Once again here's another sweet piece of pategonia gear I own. I like this shell a lot for the reason it, in my opinion is just as sweet as some of the higher end shells out there (and you know what ones i'm jabbering about). The sealed zippers rock and the pit zips rock too!!! if you stink you simply unzip the pit, lol (just kiddin about the stink part). Definately a shell worth the bucks and a great layering piece too. I wore this out at my job in down pouring conditions and was dry to the bone other than my pants (should of asked Pategonia for some rain pants). Anyway don't be fooled by the other higher end brands, this one performs awesome!!! Surround yourself with Pategonia.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dry and Happy I originally bought the patagonia torrentshell, and i was wet after the first 30 min in the rain on a backpacking trip. I exchanged it for the rain shadow, and i'm stocked. This jacket repels the rain like nobody's business, and it's durable and looks good too. It's thin and light and packs well. I'm 6'1" 200lbs and the large fits me great with room to layer. The hood has room for a hat or helmet and the sleeves are a little long to accommodate any gloves or layers underneath. I have the Brown one, and It looks like i'll be wearing it today.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps you dry, lightweight, and sexy. I wore this jacket on a 19 day backpacking trip in Utah where it rained nearly everyday. This jacket never performed less than exceptionally. It stood up to serious wind, heavy rain and hail with no problem. The hood is well adjustable for anyway you want to wear it except the hood doesn't roll up out of the way very well. ,,,,In other news, the fit is kind of large/baggy. I am 5'11'' 160lbs and a Medium was baggy and long on me. Maybe I just got the wrong size, but I figured a little big is better than too small.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Can't really complain This jacket does exactly what it is supposed to do. It keeps you out of the rain and blocks the wind like a champ. I took this jacket on a recent trip to the boundary waters and it performed very well. I like the fact that it packs light. This jacket is a no nonsense rain jacket. My only gripe is the fitting of the jacket. I am 5'10" 165lbs and this jacket hangs on me a little bit. If I went down a size it would be too tight. I wish this had a more athletic cut to it.
