This fleece is probably the softest thing I own. The high-loft exterior just makes you want to rub it. My R4 never fails to warm me up. I can wear it by itself or as part of a layering system. Like all Patigonia products, it is well made, and I have no real complaints about this piece other than the fit. Compared with the other Patigonia products I own, I feel that this jacket runs a bit big. I bought a medium (5'11" 130) because all of my other Patigonia things are meduims, but this one feels a little larger, especially at the waist. This jacket does not have a hip-synch cord by the way, so make sure your size will fit before you buy.
"Good feelce, but the older one is better"

The R4 feelce is windproof and keep you warm,it's very comfortable and great water resistance. But if you have a older one ,you will find it's better. So the new R4 don't worth $259.
A great lightweight jacket that has pretty good wind resistance. Its expensive for what it is, but you get advanced top level materials in a light jacket that packs down reasonably well. The zipper on mine broke and Im still waiting to hear back from Patagonia on the repair after mailing it in two weeks ago. Hopefully they'll fix it because the zipper is insanely rinky-dinky for such a pricey jacket. Otherwise the Napoleon Pocket is awesome and the collar stands up well and blocks wind. Would have liked a way to adjust cuffs.
I received the r4 for Christmas, and it has carried me through a relatively mild NJ Winter. Totally blocks the wind, always nice and toasty so far down into low 20s with just a lomg sleeve shirt and t shirt underneath it. Think could go close to zero with solid base layer underneath. Very plush, fit is true - large was fine and I am 6 foot and 185 lbs. very happy.
Anyway, I am warm.It is the product which is warm so as not to need the down jacket if there is this.It is such a fellow who can wear it willingly in both the town and the mountain.I recommend it!
Warmest jacket I have ever put on, sometimes its to warm to wear inside but it is 100% windproof no matter what. If you have any doubt about buying it don't def buy this.
This jacket is great. I've had it for 2 - 3 years now. It still looks as good as when I bought it. The normal lightweight fleeces have nothing on this jacket. Only problem is if the temperature is above 35-40 it is almost too warm.
I use this fleece for everything from around town in NYC to alpine conditions skiing out west. It's warm, comfortable, and durable. I'm 6'0 185 and a large fits great. Combined with a good shell it should keep you warm well below freezing.
Went up to Vmont two weeks ago to test this bad boy out. Layered it under a NorthFace triclimate Odyssey jacket n it truly kept my top half warm while skiiing. My cheeks on the other hand were ice pockets n needed something else for that. Today, just waiting for my boss, I wore this over a thin sweater standing outside in 30 F temp for 25 min and was perfectly fine. Just goes to show you how good this jacket is.Note: If you are driving over 5 mins with this jacket on, good chance you will have to take off to avoid heat stroke.
