The Men's Powder Bowl Jacket is Patagonia's most versatile riding jacket. This is an impressive accolade as Patagonia constantly puts out the most solid jackets on the market. The Powder Bowl wants to be with you as you chase the perfect ride and it is ready to adapt to the conditions (I'm guessing it would also be useful in chasing a yeti.... similar conditions). The 2-layer Gore-Tex shell is waterproof/windproof/breathable and boasts a DWR finish to further thwart the rain/snow, and utilizes pit-zips to release heat and increase ventilation. The hood is adjustable/removable and helmet compatible with a laminated visor. The lining is brushed polyester mesh which wicks moisture and assists layering. Simply put, this jacket is ready to adapt to the conditions and give you the most comfortable riding experiences possible.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. It's cute to think of a fabric as being afraid of water. Now if only they could make a bearphobic coating. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

If you haven't heard of GORE-TEX by now, you've probably been living under a rock. And that would make sense, because living under a rock is probably the only place where you wouldn't need the durable waterproof and windproof protection that GORE-TEX fabrics offer. So when you're ready to venture out from under your rock, arm yourself with the comfortable protection of GORE-TEX.

Men's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So awesome I ended up getting 2 This jacket is the best ski/snowboard jacket I have ever owned. Ordered a small when I ride, to accommodate for layering. Got an extra small for around the town. Both fit exactly how they should. This jacket has kept me warm and dry in some extreme conditions (way up in the mountains) as well as dog walking (scoping out chicks). The hood adjusts really well and pockets are in all the right spots. Some nice features include the adjustable powder skirt, snaps which go with the Patagonia snow pants, and the waist adjustability. If you're on the cusp about buying this, do it. I give you my guarantee it won't disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coat!....relaxed fit is very loose though. This is the perfect coat for wearing layers. I'm a well built 5'11'', 195 lbs. with wide shoulders (44 reg in a suit) and I ordered the large and medium because I was unsure of the fit. The medium "looks" better but was a bit tight in the chest, just long enough in the arms (a bit restrictive though), and didn't have enough room for multiple layers. The large was very relaxed and had freedom to move in any direction...I didn't feel restricted in any way. Still a bit on the large side though. I kept the large because it just felt better. It would have been perfect if they made a size between the medium and large. Still love the coat! It will be perfect for snowmobiling and skiing!

Does this coat need a down insert? Or would a sweater and underwear be sufficient in below zero conditions?

Asked by: Barbara
Hey Barbara, This is a shell jacket, meaning it's primary function is water and windproof capabilities and not insulation. Worn with a warm mid and base layer it would keep you warm by helping to trap heat in and keep wind and moisture out. Your personal temperature and the conditions you wear it in will dictate what you need to wear underneath it, but I would suggest a wool or synthetic baselayer coupled with a fleece or down midlayer on top to keep you toasty.
