DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. It's cute to think of a fabric as being afraid of water. Now if only they could make a bearphobic coating. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

If you haven't heard of GORE-TEX by now, you've probably been living under a rock. And that would make sense, because living under a rock is probably the only place where you wouldn't need the durable waterproof and windproof protection that GORE-TEX fabrics offer. So when you're ready to venture out from under your rock, arm yourself with the comfortable protection of GORE-TEX.

Men's Fit Guide Details & Info

Patagonia's measurements refer to body size and NOT garment dimensions. Sorry for yelling about it.

Each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, and below are their generalized four fit descriptions, and details about each fit. The Patagonia fit for each style can be found in the product description features or specifications.

• Conforms to the body's contours.

• Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

• Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers. Men's regular fit pants have a slimmer fit through that thigh, lower leg, and cuff.

• Drapes loosely on the body. Men's relaxed fit pants have a bit of extra room through the hip, thigh, lower, and cuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unreal Jacket. Keeps EVERYTHING out, Rain, Water, Snow, you name it. Had this jacket for a few months now and spent over a month using it in the back country. It kept the rain out during torrential downpours at the end of a Colorado summer, it was a great wind layer at the top of Mt. Massive, and kept me dry during a surprise monsoon in the canyons of Utah. This jacket is super-well made, hardly any wear despite being very hard on it. From a style standpoint, the jacket looks good, even just wearing it on the weekends. Only thing to note is that the jacket is not merely a shell, it has some insulation/warmth to it. Be careful if your looking for something to merely use in the warm months, because this jacket might be thicker than what your looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the Warm In and the Cold [and Rain] Out Surprisingly warm by itself and waterproof like a duck' know. Layer for a versatile winter system. Hood is fully adjustable, visor keeps the rain off your brow, and they say its helmet compatible...if you're into that. Has a slim fit through the chest to the waist while still allowing an impressive range of arm motion. My one complaint is the finely fuzzy fleece-like lining around the collar and near the mouth (when fully zipped) tends to hold a bit of moisture. Somewhat annoying but not enough to give this jacket anything less than a five out of five.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Hard Shell! I just got this coat and absolutely love it. My search for a hard shell to add some waterproofing, wind protection and warmth with a hood had ended. I have a Patagonia High Loft Down Sweater and it's really warm on its own but not good enough alone when it rains or when it gets frigidly cold, or to do things like go skiing. I've been searching for a hard shell to use with my Down Seater and this one is perfect. I haven't tried this in really cold weather yet but I know I'll be set this winter since the Piolet seems very durable and waterproof. The fit is regular and had plenty if room to put another coat on underneath like the Down Sweater or my Patagonia R2 fleece. I'm 5' 6", 170lbs and wear a Medium, fits great. Sleeves a bit long but by I think design to allow for climbing and activity. There are velcro cuffs so this really isn't a problem. I also love the adjustable good straps. I'm looking forward to using this in the winter, it won't disappoint!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bombproof Yo, this thing is awesome. Got caught in a typical Miami rainstorm (aka mini hurricane) and this thing kept me dry. Of course, my jeans got soaked, but it is a jacket.... Highly recommend it. Another fine product from Patagonia!
