"My favorite layer" 02/13/12
I wear this everywhere. Whether that's skiing in 20 below with only an underlayer and a technical shell, or trying to stay light while rock climbing in late fall, this does it all. Great mobility and warmth, in addition to looking awesome and weighing almost nothing. I would recommend this for the mountains in every season.
"Best jacket ever? Pretty damn close!" 02/07/12
I love this jacket. After wearing it pretty much everyday in this year's mild northeast winter, I feel like I'm finally able to give some feedback. 1. Yes, it's warm. Stop asking! Actually, it does a great job at retaining your body heat, not at warming you up. So, be sure to put it on a few minutes before you go outside. Also, it can get TOO warm at times. Think of it like wearing a plastic garbage bag - you have to unzip it to vent it because it doesn't breathe. 2. How warm exactly? I feel like a rule of thumb would be that you're good with this jacket and a t-shirt above 32 degrees. 3. Downside? It's a little short, especially in the back.
"fantastic, almost life-changing product" 01/13/12
my nano puff is my new favorite piece of clothing. i finally caved and bought one after watching my sister wear hers for a long time now. the nano puff is incredibly versatile. i have worn it indoors when it is too cold for my liking. i have layered it underneath a warmer shell (or, in my case, the insulated powderbowl), and i'm more or less bombproof at that point. once winter is over, but it's still cool outside, i'll use the nano puff as my shell, with an R1 or something underneath. anyway, there are endless permutations.one personal note is that i far prefer the full zip nano puff. the zipper quality is fantastic, and eliminates the need to put it on over your head.
"Great Jacket for the Great White North!" 01/11/12
This is a lightweight jacket that can be worn with a t-shirt on 30 degree days and under a shell on colder days. I like the bright lagoon blue color on this coat and appreciate the quality fit and finish Patagonia puts into their products. I am 6 feet tall and 175lbs. The large was fine in the shoulders, but way to big in the middle sections. I am now sporting a medium and appreciate the tighter fit to keep the warm air in where it belongs.
"Unbelievably Warm for it Weight" 12/18/11
I got the jacket in Alpha Green-- love the color, and it's incredibly warm. Great for cold temperatures and skiing on its own, and works great layered under my Mountain Hardware softshell for colder temperatures.
"It's nano puffin awesome" 12/03/11
I haven't experience any really cold weather in this yet, but I don't see it being a problem. All day today it was cold and rainy and it doesn't repel much water, but none ever came through and it never lost its heat! I got synthetic fill this for this reason. The down tends to loose more heat when wet, and here in OK we get a lot more wet-ness in winter and its holding up rather well! Also it dries back out super fast once you get out of the rain. Its been great from mid 60's down to low 30's so far and i dont ever get too hot or too cold! Im extremely impressed with this jacket.
"Lightweight and warm" 11/30/11
I got this jacket about a year ago and have only used it walking around the so far due to an injury but love it so far. It keeps me plenty warm and packs down into its own pocket to nearly nothing. I'm 5'9 210 with a pretty large chest and the XL fits perfectly there and the elastic drawstring at the bottom keeps it plenty tight on my hips. I think it will work perfectly under my shell for skiing and can't wait to try it out this season.
"Nice but sizing is a bit of (at least for me)" 11/25/11
It's not big when it comes to bulk, but to size. I'm usually an L (185cm and 85 kilos) in every other piece of clothing I own, so when I ordered it I was very confident that L would be a good fit. I was really wrong, unfortunately, because I could easily have fitted into an M. Maybe a European L is closer to a U.S. M? Living in Norway it's too much of a hassle to deal with customs and whatnot to return it to Moosejaw for a refund, so I'll stick with it.Other than that it's REALLY lightweight, a bit thinner than what I thought it would be, but seems to be perfect for +/- 0C with a thin fleece. I would recommend it to friends, but tell them to try it on first to get the size right.
