"Nice jacket" |
11/12/09 |
| I really like this jacket, but its almost too much of one thing and not the other. I wish they made an extreme fleece jacket that had the warmth of an R4, but windproof, not stiff, ventilation (pit zips), and a smooth inner lining that was soft and warm but smooth enough not to cling to your base layer or T-shirt. Anyway, this is a nice jacket, but I never wear mine because I will either wear my R1 jacket, or if its cooler, my Arc'teryx Maverick SV, or perhaps the Patagonia Intermediary (which should also have better ventilation) | |

"60mph winds ain't got nothin' on this jacket!" |
03/28/09 |
| I really love this jacket. It's super light, totally windproof, and it makes me look good. I was actually pretty skeptical of the windproof claim but I stuck my arm out of the car window one day while driving on the expressway and wearing this jacket and I couldn't feel a thing. It's not super warm so it's best for fall and spring wear but it definitely cuts through the wind. It's cut pretty slim so it fits really close to the body which is good for keeping in body heat but you can't wear too much underneath. | |

"Great, lightweight windstopper" |
12/22/08 |
| This jacket is really comfortable, stylish and definitely worth the money. The Polartec windstopper layer really does a great job of keeping the wind out with two exceptions: the bottom of the front pockets and the armpits (although the stated purpose is for ventilation) both let wind come through. The cold air getting in through the pockets is only an issue if you're not wearing gloves and, naturally, the armpits would only be a problem if you lift your hands above your head... but other than that, I really like this jacket and would definitely more Patagonia in the future! | |

"Never leaves my side, sweet fleece!" |
09/10/08 |
| Patagonia has gotten it right with this wonderful windproof fleece. It's much lighter than my Marmot Heat Shield, which means it's easier to roll up and stash in my pack. It fits under all my shells with ease, even my slim fitting Ready Mix, which the Heat Shield won't. The R1 panels under the arms keep things from getting too warm, and the cavernous chest pocket holds my sunglasses-in their case-with room for my phone as well. It does ride up a little when I raise my arms above my head, but not so much as to be an issue. It is pricey, but it is also lighter than other windproof fleeces out there, to me, the best of both worlds. | |

"Best all-around fleece I've owned." |
03/18/08 |
| My new favorite fleece. Started with the R3 but it was bulky and not very wind resistant, this one is lighter weight, warmer, and completely cuts the wind. Underarm fabric vents work really well and keep you from overheating. This is not quite as warm as the regular R4, but it is more packable and definitely more versatile. I'm 6'2 and 190 lbs., the L fits just right. | |

"This jacket is beautiful and delicious." |
03/13/08 |
| I love this jacket. It's the perfect level of warmth and windproofness for spring through fall, including those chilly northeastern summer nights. Not quite winter level warmth, but definitely optimal for between 20 degrees F and 55 degrees F. | |

"Light weight and worth the money!!!!" |
02/22/08 |
| The jackets light weight and wind resistance alows me to layer it. It provides the outdoor active crowd with a tough choice. How much will I need to wear for the activies I have planed? If you have a tough time answering that question, you do not get out enough! So my best advice to you is buy the jacket and get in the woods. | |

"Once you've owned an R4, it's hard to try anything else." |

| Great jacket, a little lighter than the original R4, but doesnt sacrifice too much warmth. Also, very good in windy conditions. | |

"Excellent versatile coat, better than average fleece" |
01/03/08 |
| Excellent versatile coat. I wear it from 25 F to 60 F. Comfortable and warm, not bulky or too fuzzy, more of a trim fit which is much nicer than the usual over sized sloppy looking frizzy which you see more often. Easy care. | |
