I love this shirt. First, the fit. The slim, athletic fit was exactly what I was looking for. I am 5'10", 150lbs and am an avid rock climbing (so I am fairly athletic), and this shirt fits me just perfect. Not too tight, sits loose but accentuates my physique. Second, it is very airy and light for those hot summer days on the trail. It drys off very quickly, and does not smell bad until after about three days of use :) So far it has held up perfectly well, only time well tell if it is ultra durable or not. But for the price and the performance so far, I would be happy if it lasted me one full season.
I have both the capilene 1 and capilene 4 top, I tend to sweat a lot hiking so for hiking I use the cap 1 and I can go with just that all day. For sitting around outside on a winter day yoou best go with the cap 4. big ups
I use these as my active base-layer year round for out-door activities (hiking, climbing, kayaking, etc.), these are also great gym shirts. The feeling of the stretch material is more silky than the non-stretch capilene and has a higher SPF rating, the shirt tucks in and wicks well. I am 5' 9", 140lbs with an athletic build, the small fits perfect.
As a college-aged athlete, I've gotten team swag playing hockey, lax, rugby, and crew. So I've had the chance to try out "dry-tech" shirts from nike, harrow, champion, and patagonia. By far, Patagonia outclasses them all. This shirt is lightweight, cool when you're sweating buckets during intervals, and has well-placed seams for when you're squatting or pulling sleds. The fit's perfect for anyone with an athletic build, with no extra fabric to get in the way.
