Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Bag I am using this bag as laptop backack, and highly recommend it. I have never purchased any Patagonia packs and instead have used another company's packs, loyally. There is one main compartment - the laptop fits into pocket that is not totally sealed. 15" powerbook fits great.,,The bottom of the side pockets are made of mesh fabric, which probably helps with drying from whatever beverage container fits in there. To my surprise, I can fit my Nalgene 32 oz container in both side pockets. Can't do that on some of the other bags on the market.,,The shoulder straps are padded, and given my 46" chest I have not had any problems of strain on my shoulders or chest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-around daypack champion at any price, the Chacabuco is a Jack-of-all-Trades! I was on the hunt for a 'do-it-all, jack-of-all-trades' daypack that I could use for a bit of everything. I loved that the Patagonia combined the volume and compressibility of the Big Shot, with the organizational versatility of the Redrock. The YYK zips have proven themselves with the ruggedness and smooth operation of a Swiss army knife!! With two sets of compression straps, the entire backpack is voluminous enough for a hardcore study session, and compressible enough for an ultra-light hike. Design of the the shoulder straps is outstanding, and I LOVE that Patagonia opted for an adjustable, heavy-duty nylon webbing sternum strap assembly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Straps are a killer I spent 78 hours researching bags for a very specific set of criteria that my other 15 packs didn't fit. ,,,,Laptop section,,28-30L capacity,,Good organization for lengthy travel,,Lightweight,,,,I ignored reviews that said the shoulder straps were bad. To those reviewers I can only say.. sorry, should have listened.,,,,I've never had straps that set me on edge so fast/ completely. 3 minutes on my back turned me into a raving sociopath. The straps start so far in on the neck that they ran across my skin instead of my T-shirt. The edge of the straps felt like sandpaper.,,,,Moral of the story: read reviews and buy on impulse. Research is for suckers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this! I got this backpack about 2 years ago for school. It was big enough to hold all my huge binders for all my science courses, but it never felt bulky when it was fully packed. I also use this backpack for day trips, rock climbing, kayaking, fishing, and snowshoeing in the winter. I have never had a problem with things inside getting wet even during the heaviest down pour. I got the all black and for the amount of time it has been out in the the rain/sun it hasn't fadded much (if any) at all. God forbid anything happens to this pack, but if for some reason I need to get another backpack; I'll get another Patagonia Chacabuco for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun to say and holds a ton of gear! I kid you not, I have often shoved this bag with two lap tops, a massive digital SLR camera, mini camera, ipod, weekend worth of clothes, glasses, hard drive, power cords, knife, toothbrush, water bottle and a pair of kicks - and it all fits great. I wanted a camera/laptop bag but nothing was as cool looking as this baby. Happy I went with it. Awesome bag... only issue I have with it is when it is jam packed, getting a laptop in and out of the laptop sleeve can be a little tricky, especially if the little top pocket is packed with some gear. AND the clip on the front has a whistle on it, which, is a fun party trick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A WORTHY COMPANION I ordered this back pack 6 months ago and this little guy has survived and thrived through all of my costa rican adventures, a Michigan winter, a drunken St. Patrick's day, countless flights and cross-country travels. If you're the person who is always breaking or spilling things, Chacabuco is the one... durable and dependable. Perfect for those traveling light, taking weekend trips, or students carrying heavy loads. This spacious pack has pocket game; thoughtfully organized, aesthetic appeal, and just the right amount of division where things don't get lost. AND our friends at Patagonia always keep you looking fresh.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pack for travel! I bought this pack specifically for a trip I was taking and needed something that could stow all my stuff for the plane ride and then be able to load up for day hikes and photo expeditions. Well, this pack took it all in stride. Loaded it was comfortable on a hike up the mountain even with just a waist strap. It was also great for touring (on bike or foot) around with my camera gear (in a separate padded bag) inside along with whatever souvenirs I'd picked up. The pockets on the side will expand alot, and I really like the top 2 zippered pockets for holding snack bars or my iPod or sunglassses. ,,Also, I have the green color which got a lot of compliments. Love this bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack! I got this pack as a new school pack, so it has to handle a fair amount of weight in textbooks, and have good shoulder straps. The straps are a little hard when new, but break in pretty quickly. All of the compression straps are very adjustable, and the sternum and waist strap are all removable. The build quality is excellent, as well as the fit, although, as I have a pretty slim build, I feel the pack is a little too wide. It would great as a light weight daypack, but as I already have one, this is on school duty. All of the internal organization is well thought out, and I give it an 11/10 overall.
